We have an Eheim wet/dry filter and wouldn't touch another with a 10ft barge pole. It ran well for 6 months then stopped. Since it previously sat in a friend's wardrobe for several years, claiming warranty was not an option. Have tried ever since to fix it but no luck. No answers from Eheim either. Have found plenty of others around the world with the same problem and they haven't been able to fix theirs either. It still works as an ordinary canister filter but the wet/dry feature doesn't work. I recommend you avoid them. I gather many people make their own wet/dry systems which work very well.
  5. You have mistaken helpfulness for criticism FindingNemo.

From which part of the bristlenose was it coming from?
  7. Goldfish are on the banned list and I think it has been longer than 1993 that we have not been able to import them. This explains the poor quality of goldfish here.
  8. TC bought a discus from Wet Pets in Palmerston North and brought it home with her in the car and on the ferry then overnighted in Blenheim and continued home to Rangiora the next day and the fish was fine. It had been bagged correctly and well. We regularly buy fish when we are in ChCh and it can be 7 or 8 hours before they get into a tank back here by the time we have finished shopping
  9. Then just send the rolls and they will accept your apology
  10. Most killi breeders keep the species in separate tanks too.
  11. I also did an article on them which can be found in the Feb 2004 Aquarium World magazine for those lucky enough to have a copy.
  12. Wow, a tank with curtains - how posh  What size is it?

The lounge tank I fill with a python but the computer tank is too far from taps so I run the garden hose through the window and fill it with cold. I have never worried about equalising temps. Think about fish in a pond. They bask on the surface in summer but if startled they dive down to the deeper parts. There is often quite a difference between the surface temp and that of the bottom depths.
  15. I used to have fire bellies too and a man in Timaru bred them for years!
  16. Talk to Peter McLeod re guppies. He is in Rotorua and is a member in here.
  17. Caryl replied to calvin's topic in Saltwater
Sorry to hear that Calvin. As the others have asked...what happened? Are we talking several tanks here or just one?
  18. yellow on one side and an odd 'bread-like" pattern on the other . If they jump out of the tank they always land yellow side down
  19. It doesn't matter if you only have 2 lfs Maxy as we don't have any - just a garden centre selling a few 'bread and butter' fishes.
  20. Our club began when an advert appeared in the local paper asking people interested in forming a fish club to ring the phone number given, so we did. They then arranged for all to meet one Sunday afternoon at their house and it went from there. These days you can also put posters up in vets, libraries, any community notice boards you have, malls, supermarkets, schools etc. Another thing, if you have a free community paper, ask them to do an article about you wanting to see if there was enough interest in forming a club. Alternatively, just do the poster thing (and the advert in the paper if you can afford it), wait until you have enough interested to form a club then go to the paper and ask them to do an article on your newly formed club. I am happy to supply posters for you if you tell me the details you want on them. I can do them in colour for you too so they will stand out. If there is enough interest and the club gets off the ground you may then consider whether you want to join the FNZAS. This gives your members access to the free Aquarium World magazine and a Year Book listing, among other things, all the other affiliated clubs in the country and their members' details. It also lists all retailers offering discount to FNZAS members.

The last 2 links to fishless cycling may be broken but the basics of cycling and what it means are explained (using fish) and that is what I meant him to see.

  25. Put them in another container and see if that helps. There may be something toxic with the new tank.
