  1. But Minch, what about MY costs for conference and travel if I have to go and do this? I recommend everyone to visit the Tawhiti Museum as it is spectacular and the photos do not do the models justice. The detail in them is incredible! They have their own website too www.tawhitimuseum.co.nz
  2. Organising a first meeting is easy. Get the venue booked then put an advert in the papers and posters up on as many noticeboards as you can find. I can do some full colour posters for you if you want that will be sure to attract attention. Give the title (eg. Northland Fish Nuts Meeting!), place and time then keep your fingers crossed. If you can arrange to have some fish and/or plants etc to swap, sell, giveaway then that would encourage attendance too. If you have local free papers get them to do an interview with you the week before the meeting.
  3. Go ahead and organise a meeting then advertise it phillz and see how many turn up, rather than just ask if anyone is interested. If no-one turns up it will be no great loss (except for the cost of the venue). Is it possible to find a free place for the inaugural meeting?

    Hi Everyone

Hi and welcome Chim Chim. The common plec, Hypostomus plecostomus, is brown with mottled markings and grows up to 60cm. There are plecs called zebra plecs but they cost big bucks.
  5. OK it is easy to affiliate to the FNZAS once you have your club up and running. All you do is write to the FNZAS correspondence secretary H Goodin, 3a Fenton Tce, Te Puke requesting affiliation. It would pay to giver her the name of your club plus the details for your president, secretary and treasurer. She, in turn, then sends a letter to all affiliated clubs telling them of your club's wish to join the FNZAS and asking for dissenting votes. The clubs have 2 months to reply. If no-one objects, you will be contacted and asked to pay capitation fees (currently $5 per person but going up to $10 next year) and a Year Book levy (of $25 per year per club and may be paid for by selling an advertising strip in the Year Book). You will then be welcomed into the FNZAS. Easy eh?
  6. OK, I have added a pile of sub albums to the FNZAS conference 2005 album... http://photobucket.com/albums/v144/cary ... ce%202005/

    Hi from Wellington

Have a look at the top of the page. It says Index, Search, FAQ, Chatroom (IRC) etc. Click on chatroom. When the cretificate thing comes up click on yes to accept it or you won't get into chat. You must also have javascript installed on the computer. I think most modern computers come with it already in there but it can be downloaded free off the Net from a number of places. Once in the chatroom you will see a list on the right telling you who is in the room. The main screen shows you what is being typed and at the bottom is a single line with your cursor flashing in it. Just type what you want and hit Enter and your conversation will appear in the bit above. You can change your font colour by selecting the one you want at the right hand end of the line you type in. Hope to see you there!

    Hi from Auckland

Hi and welcome. Check out the Plants section as dubbieboy was offering riccia to all and sundry. Aren't you a bit overstocked for a 120L? Although the plec, clowns and the shark will outgrow it anyway as time goes on so I guess they are all small fish at the moment. Keep an eye on the fighter and gourami as they might be a problem that needs one of them being moved.
  10. Also keep an eye out for red streaks on the fin. It is possible it is a sign of something more sinister but here's hoping he has just scraped himself on something.
  11. At least we are seeing progress Shae

    Great pic catbrat!
  13. "The two we had in it died again" ??? I didn't know fish could die more than once. Baby BNs seem to be very sensitive and sometimes will die for no apparent reason, even though conditions seem to be good.
  14. That is what the liners are for. A popular water feature here is to use a half a wine barrel, lined with plastic liner.
  15. Rash? Not sure if fish can get rashes. Is it possible it has scraped itself against something?
  16. I hope they are small goldfish as 20L is too small for goldfish. If you are concerned, pack polystyrene around the tank or cover it at night with a quilt or similar. At below 10C they go into semi hibernation and certainly slow down in cooler temps. Don't we all?
  17. If they keep kicking the bucket then I would suggest the simplest solution would be to remove the bucket
  18. Near the corner of Ilam and Clyde.
  19. I would not treat the tank but I would do frequent water changes and keep a very close eye on all the fish. Clown loaches are very susceptible to white spot so study them carefully!
  20. NOW mistymu05  . Still $15 for a senior by the way. Are you able to come to the meeting this Sunday? Goldie is coming up and could pick you up on the way through. Just a day trip, not an overnighter. She was going to see if TC could come too but she has been having eye surgery so I am not sure if she is well enough or if she is back at work yet. Perhaps you could check with her?
  21. Female guppies can start reproducing very quickly, within months. They aren't called the millions fish for nothing! They will produce less fry than more mature females.
  22. Any time I used a grolux tube I got incredible growth in algae but nothing else.
  23. You could also try rocks - nothing more natural for a rockery
