  1. I know this section is for aquatic plants but these climbers are beside my pond so I figured that was close enough  Can someone tell me what these two climbers are and whether they die off over winter? They did last year but I'm not sure if that was because they were supposed to or because they were hit by the particularly bad frost we had that took the tops from some of my hebes too  First plant is this one... Second plant looks like this... and produces large seed pods I can't remember what the flowers looked like. :-?
  2. Is it the pump that's too noisy or the bubbles? You can turn down the air flow to lessen the bubbles if they are causing the noise. Also try stting the pump on a mat or foam pad, or hang it from a hook so it isn't touching anything.

    Combatable?

I thought it was appropriate
  4. I have one but I rarely use it as it is too far from my tap to the tank and the height difference makes it very slow. We also have low water pressure. I can't use it for siphoning water out as it isn't a strong enough current to lift the crud off the substrate. To refill the tank takes ages too and I tend to forget it. So take into account your water pressure, the distance between your tap and tank, and the height of both.
  5. Perhaps you could offer a more accurate weather forecast than the TV then adodge
  6. Why bother wok when they will have read it in the AW already? Thanks Amazonian but too late, already posted
  7. Creating Powerpoints is pretty easy. Even I worked out how to do it! Nothing as fancy as zev could do I am sure
  8. You often learn more from others (or your own) mistakes than by reading how to do it right. It can also be more constructive. As to "I don't know how", that is not a valid answer. If someone said to you "How did you set up this great tank you have here?" you wouldn't say "I don't know", you would tell them a basic step by step. When writing, imagine someone has asked you "How did you do (breed, build, make etc) that?" and go from there. As said, I can correct grammar and spelling as required. Please, give it a go.
  9. I do make mistakes and typos  The Aquarium World is the only NZ aquarium magazine as far as I know. It will not have been for sale in a shop. It is a small A5 sized magazine, not a big glossy one like Practical Fishkeeping et al. Billaney, you have hit the nail on the head. Positive feedback is lovely but being sent plenty of articles, fish jokes, puzzles, fillers, DIY, breeding stuff etc is appreciated much more. I don't know what wil happen next year as I will be overseas for several weeks - with a magazine due out in the middle of my OE. :-?
  10. I don't feed my fish while I am away. Of course, if you have large fish or fry this is harder to get away with. My community tank only gets fed once or twice a week and gets left up to 2 weeks when I am away with no problems. I seem to remember someone recommending the Eheim feeders. More expensive but more reliable.
  11. I have never used them as I have heard of them clogging etc. My concern would be - if you want the auto feeder because the tank doesn't get too much attention, adding an autofeeder would make it worse. Feeding time is when you check for disease, injury, temperature correct, filter working well etc. even if you only feed once or twice a week.
  12. Some of you might recognise the pic of the pair from the Aug '06 Aquarium World cover
  13. Just as a point of interest... folding and stapling took 3 hrs bagging and stamping (3 of us working hard) took 2 hrs printing the magazines took 24 hrs Actually writing the thing took over 30 hrs
  14. Not for sale, no. It is for members only or subscribers. A few libraries also have them, although none in ChcH.
  15. OK it is all printed and ready to post in the morning. Thanks to Grant, Kelly and Neil for helping (even if we did have to liten to Kelly sing!)
  16. Anyone ought be immediately suspicious of any message sent all in capitals and with such poor English
  17. What's wrong with the good old box filter run by a pump? Ideal for a fry tank. Or a sponge filter.
  18. I don't understand why they need the owner's permission. I thought the dog had been abandoned by the owner?

    How do i join

The NZKA? Ask wok (or caserole may have one too) for a form. I don't think you join the NZQA, it is an authority which hires its members.

    Tonic salt

I would expect any dosage to be so small as to have little effect on most plants.
