  1. Around the 7 dollar mark. I think.
  2. As far as I know, the coral reds are quite rare and are therefore more expensive. That is my reasoning as to why I'm expecting golden pencils labeled as red.
  3. No, pet Planet in Dunedin. But I'm assuming they're all essentially from the same source.
  4. I've ordered some. I expect them to be the golden ones. I'll update on Wednesday when I get them. Or Thursday.
  5. I'll check the rubber bits and o-ring next time I get the filter out. In running out of things to try though, so maybe this will be it.
  6. Yes and yes. Now, what is the fastest way to grow hair algae?
  7. I agree, but I may have added too much.
  8. Its not, its got 16 ember tetra, 1 rio ucayali bn, 2 agassizii. I'll upload some pictures in a few days I reckon. Currently there are too many tannins and its too dark to grab a decent photo.
  9. Maybe you're right. I have been feeding white worms almost everyday. The the pH would be quite low too. Water quality isn't bad but it won't be as high has it needs to be. Just weekly water changes with an eheim 2213.
  10. I think that is what I'll end up doing. The link above from trademe seems to be my best bet so far
  11. That's certainly true now that I'm trying to silence it.
  12. When you say this it makes me wonder. I got a pair 2 weeks ago, and ever since the female has been extremely aggressive. There is no chance of me seeing any eggs, unless she lays by the glass somewhere. I still doubt that they spawned, but seeing as yours spawned so quickly, it seems more of a possibility that mine did too. She has since calmed down a little, and the male now seems to be the more dominant. However they don't play nice...
  13. Could try that. Otherwise I'm thinking this which can be cut to shape. Maybe there is something south american though, to fit the biotope. Not that it really matters too much.
  14. Makes sense. But it does seem to look like algae, so maybe it is still possible?
  15. You're probably right that it shares its mold with the 2313. That explains the cavity. Last night/this morning when I was laying in bed and everything was silent, I could hear the humming quite clearly. It sounded almost as if the impeller wasn't quite central. Possibly due to an imperfect impeller. I don't think the shaft would be an issue as that is reasonably new as well.
  16. And if anyone has a good idea how to grow/accumulate the algae or debris on the branches in this video, I'm all ears.
  17. I'm after something to copy the look of the dead stalks in this video: I'm happy to try anything that would suit. It doesn't have to thrive, or even survive, as I kind of like the dead look. I don't have a clue where to start looking, or if there is anything to avoid so maybe if someone has some pond experience you could help me out. Tank is about 60l, so quite small.
  18. I've already vaselined the O-ring. There is no air coming through the filter so it wouldn't be a leak. I'm curious as to what this cavity in the lid is for and why it is making a noise. Here is a picture of the cavity that I forgot I had taken. I'm talking about the dark hole. You can see on the left side, there is a small opening. This is interesting because the whole thing is supposed to be air tight (mostly) so there shouldn't be any air movement.
  19. True. I've also tried sealing the clips of the lid to power head (not the metal ones) by putting some paper towel between it to see if it will stop and vibration. But not much effect when it comes to noise.
  20. Those are my thoughts too. I'm currently trying the filter with the cap filled with paper towels to help muffle the sound but no luck.
  21. I've had my cannister filter for about 6 months now and it has constantly been humming. I've decided to try and silence it now, because as far as I'm aware, it is supposed to be silent. I guess there is always going to be a slight sound of the impeller spinning but I'm fairly certain there is more than just that happening. I've searched online and played around with my filter. What I have found and done is as follows: - People suggested lubricating the impeller and shaft - People have suggested replacing the impeller due to small chips which have been throwing off the balance of the impeller - I have both lubricated and replaced the impeller. Both have helped a little with the noise, but it is still too loud. - I found pressing down on the powerhead helped quieten the sound. I was missing 1 of the clips, so I have now replaced all of them. - I have completely taken the filter apart (without braking or unscrewing anything) The problem lies with the empty cover over the powerhead. The sound of the spinning impeller is amplified by the hollow space surrounding it. My immediate thought was to fill it up with something. How ever I don't want it to overheat and explode or something. On closer inspection there is a compartment which, when the lid is attached, will be sealed from the top and have an opening of about 15mm x 10mm. This leads me to believe it has some sort of purpose. Maybe to be filled? Or maybe to be left empty? Can anyway shed some insight on what my be the problem or potential solutions?
  22. I'm looking at buying this: http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/hydor-e ... 20e8de72cd I have the option between that (12mm) and a 16mm one. My filter is an eheim classic 2213 with 12/16mm tubing. That confuses me. Which size should I go for? Also, its for me 60ish litre tank, so the heater is well over rated in terms of wattage. For a normal in tank heater I realize this doesn't really matter, however is there something I should think about before getting this? Maybe smaller tank/filter = less flow = over heating heater? I'm just double checking with people who have a little more experience when it comes to things like this. I was going to buy this a few months ago, but never got around to it - but now I will. Thanks, Dennis
