    Progress

why not wait till you get algae before you get the clean up fish, that way if you don't get it you can get something else from your theme... that is if you are only getting the cleaners to clean and not look pretty
  4. nice pics Mr P, thanks for sharing. will update my thread at the weekend when I get some camera batteries

    Scheeli fry log

one of the big fry is definitely a boy, can now see the colour on the lower fin. Nice to see them developing now, and how the dynamics in the tank change. The smaller fry get chased out of the feeding zone by the bigger ones who are in turn chased by the adults. The male who was the smaller bullied one has become the bully, he rounds them up and zaps off again. Am thinking that when I can tell the new females are definitely females, I will pass on my big boy and let the new little boy grow and that will give the female a little rest while he preparing himself for his destiny...!!
  6. that's not good, will look forward to a shot another day I moved one of my crypts on the weekend, so far it hasn't melted, maybe it's going to surprise me and be gone in the morning hehe
  7. Birkenhead, Pupuke Rd, on the corner of another road with some shops. Google Pupuke Aquarium centre and you'll get the street number
  8. that's what I said in another thread.... they just laughed at me!
  9. Adrienne, I don't have any indian fern in there... This is what the new stuff looks like http://www.aquaticscapes.com/plnt_pics/737e.jpg This is more what Josh's stuff looks like http://www.ecotao.co.za/assets/images/L ... flora2.jpg
  10. thanks Joefish, the grassy plant is dwarf chain sword, tenellus tenellus if I remember rightly. I'm also wondering about the different plants that were both called Ambulia, if anyone knows?
  11. Front on – spot the fry. Riccia has been cut down by more than half to let more light through. Duckweed also gone. It's been removed for 2 weeks (? lost count) and I get a maximum of 1 or 2 reappear every 2 or 3 days. Looking in – as you can see I somehow have 2 varieties of Ambulia. There is the feathery Joshlikesfish version that I have also bought elsewhere, and another thicker stemmed more ferny leaved one. Windelov fern and java fern that was previously hidden were found to be both resprouting fresh green so I took the opportunity to prune off the old stuff and rearrange them. There is fern at each end of the log. Crypt garden (3 here – left sides are Cryptus Supasii – species as yet unknown, big one is Walkerii. I moved the smallest one-leafed crypt to the front (only one leaf to melt  ) as it seems that in my tank the plants grow quite compactly. I thought it would be nice to have a little crypt garden here with the tiger lotus. Interesting to compare the leaves of the Walkerii now to the beginning photo, they have lengthened considerably. I am quite attached to my crypts now! Male enjoying a new hiding spot Front right corner which will eventually be swaying with twisted val
  12. I really like it Hovmoller. Maybe some more twisted val in the back to contrast the wood but I'm biased and want it everywhere
  13. what size tank is that Jennifer? what is the smallest tank you could have some shellies in?
  14. I'm pretty sure mine was submersed when I bought it so back to the drawing board. I'm sure one of the others will know
  15. have had a rescape... not a big revamp, just a rearrangment. Will post some photos when the new plants have straightened up a bit

the fish on the left of these 2 pictures is my biggest fry there are always wrigglers
  17. I have a supposed retrospiralis and the leaves are straight up and down, not laying over at all. It hasn't settled in at all yet but all the leaves it has put out are reasonably the same but not like yours.
  18. something that doesn't attract too many idiots to your desk then? OR something that lures interesting future love interest people to your desk.... like kissing fish!!!!!
  19. can you post a photo of looking into the tank from a little higher up too?

my first fry is about that by now, she's getting big. Approx 5 or 6mm across the top of her snout
  22. It seems that anything that was originally offended by my low bleach sterilisation at the beginning will go thin when I put excel in. The newer crypts etc don't mind, but the val and the lotus are visibly different.

tell me again, how big or old do the females have to be before being ready to breed?
