  1. Oh, just clicked  Problem solved..... All fronnies in NZ are Cynotilapia frontosa. No variant, most likely Burundis. Just like the old school ones are here. Simple really, as I thought too. Been fun, next  Frenchy
  2. The thing is you asked what could be breed with what. I gave you the answer, that is with neither. Big thrills you bought a dodgy fish. Whippee join the cue. I have been there done that a few times. Hopefully you will learn from the mistake. No ned to shout, we didn't sell it too you. Thanks to all the replies, I will note that I have kept & breed a few species of Aulonocara & have kept Kadango too. Never bred, dam male  I mean really, look at the differences in body shape, head shape & length, scale patterns, the orange stripe on anal fin. That isn't caused by poor quality. The best way to compare pics, is use similar species. Make up your own mind. A kadango male, old mates, aulonocara steveni. The good thing is if the females came from a different source, try & find a male from the same lines then. Before anyone goes oh but, this has been happening for generations with alot of cichlid species, no dramas. Frenchy
  3. The 2 in the last link have been colour fed. Note how all of the fins are coloured as well as the body. The stripe I am talking about is on the anal fin only & I am talking about males. On kadango's this is white. I did a google search just to check. I saw this on only 2 photos out of 8 pages of pics, about 100 plus photos. The first one you linked has the white edging. that is the type that will be in NZ. They are the old school Kadango that come with no location variant. Same as the old school ones we have here. 4. You don't need an help when it comes to working slow Frenchy
  5. As for the blues. What are blues, different countries different common names? Frenchy
  6. What and give them a pillow & tuck them in? Glad I don't have to worry to much about the cold. Frenchy
  7. Well he must be hot, of all the photos, mates, relations, g/f......not one of Brad.... Frenchy
  8. Brad has a look today & said to me he thinks the male is to high bodied to be peacock. If we went half way, as I think its not round enough to be a kadango. Hybrid? I know peacocks & Kadangos can cross. Was it Billaney that had the pics up not long ago of the peacock trying to get in on the action? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/mmf-vt17709.html Oh I am yet to see a male Kadango with a red stripe on its anal fin too. Someone may correct me on that So to answer the question, neither. Frenchy
  9. Yeah, but have you seen Brad??? Frenchy
  10. Now in the pic there, the male looks better. Hard to tell with pictures. Frenchy
  11. I would like to see a clearer pic of the bottom females too. Note how the scales are easily seen on kadango's when compared to peacocks. Another noticeable difference. Frenchy
  12. I have seen geos in with fronnies before. They work really weell together. I know different water... Frenchy
  13. Thats what got me, its like a huge difference. They were all stripped at the same time, except for one mouthfull of yellows.... week earlier. Frenchy
  14. Someone call  The fish in the middle picture is a pecacock{Aulonocara} of some sort. Having read the thread, its a case of once again, old school kadango's are just that. What variant I am not sure, it's the same case here. Unless of course someone just imported a particular variant. As we all know, breeding with better quailty males/females will produce generally better off spring. Is it just me, or does the female in the top pic have a nice higher body, note around the head, compared to that of the female in the bottom pic. The ones we have over here a like this one, Frenchy
  15. I have kept them as indivuals in display tanks, mixed results. They can be a pain in the .... It's more of a case of they aren't fans of standing down if they like a cave  Frenchy
  16. The part I don't like is the size. 15mm And someone has bid $10 so far too. Frenchy
  17. Congrats & well done 8) Frenchy
  18. Hello Shell welcome back. The offer still stands if you get back into fish. brad will look after you so you won't have to pay retail or next to it. I agree they aren't hybrids, just been lined breed for alot or years. The point you make about the fronnies steming back to one source/location variant can be said about most cichlids. eg; brichardis, alto's...Lake tangy is around 12 million years old{I think from memory} Thats alot of time, water levels raising & falling....species getting seperated by bodies of water, islands, points..... therefore form there own little differences over time... caused by varying factors, diet, surroundings.... The difference is these are naturally occuring differences & variances. Breeding different variances against each other creates hybrids. Frenchy
  19. Just to add, this topic has been on The qld cichlid forum here. I think you have to be a member to read the thread. Here is a snippet from a guy been keeping fish longer than I have been alive, he tested a couple of theories. http://www.qldcichlid.com/modules.php?name=Forums Frenchy
  20. at David, thats it give Mystic an inch...she will take a mile  {jok} Mesh.... :-? could always drop the water level of the tank by 5 to 10cm. Frenchy
  21. I strip mine at 2 weeks, as I know they are free swimming, no egg sack at all. Frenchy
