  1. Looking good! Love the clown!
  2. Taking half down to L.A. tomorrow......
  3. I wonder how well this would work in a hangi, Ive never had (or heard of) hangi'd fish but I love that smokey taste it gives chicken, I presume it would be pretty close to fish. Might have to get a pass to go up Mt Tarawera for some rocks.
  4. there heads are big to support the large nocturnal eyes, they use their large ears to track prey, and once sighted with the huge eyes they strike, chupacabra were thought to be a myth untill scientists discovered one in Paris Hiltons handbag, now they're available everywhere. These guys are cute, but I would let your partner do the majority of the walking, they dont tend to make a man feel very masculine.
  5. images aint showing up for me, will have to open new tab and copy/paste these ones I think.
  6. All done, tastes great although I can see places for improvement. Its a little dry, perhaps an 1h 15m is about right using this method, and its a lil salty, plus I should have rubbed the brown sugar in a bit more. MMMM Ive roasted some pine nuts and chargrilled some capsicum and fresh chilli, thrown on a musculin salad mix with lemon juice, balsamic and a lil olive oil. Unfortunetly I didnt get a chance to take a pic of that, it suddenly vanished, the only trace was a pleasant taste in my mouth and the empty salad bowl :-?
  7. Im using river sand in 2 of my tanks now (thanks L.A. ) and both me and the fish seem to be liking it. I foubd silica sand has sharp edges, would stick to the fire eel and scratch his eyes. Would stick to the sides of the bolivians when they dug out their pits for spawning. Id say any cichlids that dig those little pits would benifit from it, mine prefer laying in those then finding a suitable rock.
  8. Still in there at the moment Chris but smelling and looking very tasty, looks like the 100'c for 2 hours is about right, 1 hour to go! My tummy feels like its going to cave in im so hungry, might have to settle for a bit of snapper to get me through.
  9. Got some lids, they need cutting down a bit but theres only about a 4mm gap, I decided to get Iggy (fire eel) in there today. Wont know how much he likes it untill hes out hunting tonight, wonder how many guppies will be left in the morning. Used some old bed slats and a few bits of filter netting to block any gaps or holes, so with a bit of luck I wont find him on the floor when I do my morning rounds.
  10. As you can see from the state of the plates on the BBQ it hasnt been used ALL summer, hasnt been used in about 2 years lol, so fish juice isnt an issue, $60 how ever Good thing is too dirty stuff can always be cleaned. Pre smoking, washed the salt off, patted dry with paper towel, rubbed in brown sugar. Using Manuka chips and 3 lemonade leaves.
  11. hes about 14cm at the moment but growing fast, thats why its important I get him into the tank asap, I dont want to stunt his growth.
  12. Does he have any idea what sort of tempreture is too hot? With one burner going, on the lowest setting, I get around 105 - 110 degrees stable. Im thinking around an 1 1/2 to 2 hours should be about right.
  13. We have a hooded BBQ, with a tempreture gauge, it also has a rack inside to the back, enough to get 2 large fish on. So I started thinking. We dont have a smoker, and usually will just breadcrumb and pan fry any fish I catch, I love smoked fish, and hope to get myself some trout this year but I wanted to build a smoker first. What im going to do is place the fish on that rack, manuka chips on the hot plate, close the lid and hope for the best. Fish have been salted, Ill wash that off at about 2pm, and sprinkle with brown sugar and throw them in. Its been years since Ive seen a smoker working, so any tips or advice much appriciated before I get them in there.
  14. when you go fishing and end up wanting to keep everything you catch rather then eat it. I've sort of swapped one type of fish addiction for another :-?
  15. thanks sam, Ill see what I can find. thinking of making the plants all southeast asain if I can get enough, might look into another tank and doing a southeast asain biotope in the near future, I havnt seen too many around and it would be an interesting adventure.
  16. would someone be able to let me know which of these types of plants are available here? Crinum, Ceratopteris, Hygrophila, Cryptocoryne, Nymphaea
  17. Yup My fire Eel has already jumped ship a few times when he was little, and that was in all-in-one tanks, so hes not going in there until I find some glass and gets some lids made. Ill be buying my pictus 1 per week I think lol, they arent cheap but I think they will be well worth it once I have them schooling. I got guppies in there now to help it cycle and some kribs, its doing really well water is very clear, it smells good and the fish look comfortable (i dont have test kits) Im looking to get a camera to use tomorrow to get some pics up, its already looking pretty good although it needs planting alot more, I need to wait for some more lighting. Im planning on using 3 desk lamps, with eco bulbs, or a method thats roughly as cheap and easy to install, as well as kind on my power bill. Ive used a light layer of gravel in certain parts of the tank where I plan to plant heavily, Im hoping this will keep the fire eel from digging them all up. Not sure what plants I want in there, I wont want ones that have a huge demand on light due to my lighting setup, so hopefully I can still get some nice variation. At the moment there is a tiny bit of twisted val, cabomba and indian fern. Im wanting some swords I know at least that much, is there anything like hairgrass thats not so light demanding?
  18. Thats what I thought too elusive, being a spider eater the white would be the winner, tried it on 3 different occasions now. Theres a good mythbusters episode where he gets bitten by daddys, yes thats right they can pierce the skin.
  19. I doubt it hehe, try it for yourself, they cant hurt daddys. Too much leg not enough body, they just step over the white tails and drop down to bite as they pass over. Few seconds later they wrap them up.

yup its japanimation, although there are a couple of nice ones coming out of the states every now and then. Afro samurai has the voice of sam jackson, although its only 6 episodes long Check out samurai champloo, short, only 26 episodes, but very good.
  21. Or stick it in a jar with a Daddy long legs, white tails are no match for them.
