    New Reef Tank

Yeah, I remember you saying. It just looked like Tims had been professionally welded.

    Deltec Tank

Couldn't pass this picture from the latest MACNA. Deltec starfire (17mm) tank. Paint job by Porsche of course. I have no idea how much. I guess it's a case of if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

looks better than the real thing. I haven't found and sort of halide reflectors, (other than the crap hydroponics ones) in NZ. Who made them? Layton

    Air Dryers

There is a good reason for ozone/UV... keeps waste in a more removable (reactive) form.

Now I know where to get some real reflectors for my tank.

    Air Dryers

    120 - 180 for a few hours.

    Air Dryers

I think they just scatter a few indicator beads in. Looks fine to me. Layton
  8. Check out the "VorTech" pump at the bottom of this page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/me ... stuff.html Currently under beta from Icecap (the ballast people), unveiled at the latest MACNA conference.
  9. Some UV a/b lamps have a pink tint to them. Something in the phosphors. I guess that's what they are? Layton
  10. Nope. It's overkill even for a SPS tank. I'll be using 250's and t5's on the next setup. Layton
  11. Four 400 Watt metal halides and various pumps.
  12. I'd say yes. Mainly because people want to keep a wide variety of animals, many of which can not be kept in smaller tanks. You do have to be aware of running costs though. My 6' and 4' uses $190 a month in power. So 4' i think is a good start size, but by all means go bigger if you can. Layton

    New Reef Tank

Sounds good. I'll have to check it out. Steve really does have his flow sorted
  14. My minimum recommendation would be 4'. It allows a beginner to keep a wide variety of different animals. With smaller tanks, you are limited in the animals you can keep. It's also a good size as it's not too expensive to setup, and maintain. Layton

Hey Tim Looking good, what do you think of the sequence pump? I'm looking a using a hammerhead on closed loop for my upgrade. Layton
  16. If the pore water of the rock has access to nutrients then it will absorb to an equilibrium (absorbtion), at the same time it reaches an equilibrium with the water nutrient levels (generally shedding).
  17. Your rock is shedding too Pies, but the waste just falls back into the sand bed. And the rock is sitting in the sand bed, so it absorbs it back again. A bit like a paper towel absorbs water when one end is stuck in a glass of water.
  18. Umm... that's the truth, clearly it's going to make a difference to how much a skimmer pulls out. wasp, stop trying to turn it into something it's not.
  19. 5 tangs, 3 royal dottybacks, maybe ten or so other fish.
  20. I've got rock shedding waste. Pies has a sand bed and rock storing waste. It's hard to compare.
  21. Tea coloured. Also get a green, toothpaste consistency, build up around 4-5mm thick at the top of the riser tube, every week.
  22. 1.5 - 2 litres a day from ap902
  23. There is no forum Barebottom.com yet... Oh wait. nope just checked, that is negative.
