  1. I got it from reef, i think it had been his tank a while.
  2. nope anemone is the correct spelling
  3. Found this pic (not mine) which shows the colour, and probably about the size of my green cap before it was totally eaten in less than a week by those nudibranchs!
  4. I tried iodine dips, copper dips, and finally freshwater dips. Nothing worked. Some people say that montis are very sensitive to freshwater dips. Layton
  5. Haven't seen any down here in the 6 or 7 years I've been in the hobby. Or any montipora for that matter, until the last year or so, and the ones that are here came from reef, or Redwoods first SPS shipment a few months ago.
  6. The red M. foliosa is around an aquaculture from Bali. Mine looks like its polyps are turning dark blue under high light. Looks like it's going to grow into a nice big colony. Layton
  7. The nudibranch are white. The blue and red montipora is one of the ones they killed.
  8. They are about 2-3mm when fully grown. They are VERY difficult to spot. Here is a thread about them: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/monti- ... t7404.html
  9. I had a large green one, 10 - 12" which was completely killed by monti eating nudibranchs, hopefully others around Christchuch still have the frags I gave out, it' would be great to get it growing again in my tank, once the coast is clear. It was a very bright green (caulerpa colour green)

    MAF Review

I'm focussing on corals. Adding to the list when i have time around other work. I have well over 700 species in my database (mainly hard corals), however i'm only displaying ones which are known or highly likely to be in NZ. It's easier with corals than with fish, because when it comes to the crunch taxonomists have trouble ID'ing species from sight, meaning if we cover the distinctive species within a genus, then whose going to tell the difference between closely related species. Then there are species which are illegal to trade, rare, or are limited to African or Red Sea reefs, which we just can't get. I think the fish is a MUCH bigger task.

Thanks Steve, yes where nothing is indicated for the photo, it means I already have a photo. You can download a PDF (around 4MB) with the photos included here: http://www.nzreefs.com/corallistcp.pdf Layton

    MAF Review

Thanks Brian. I have updated the list, and added a few more species. http://www.nzreefs.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=16 Anyone who is a fan of LPS send your species to me. I've got the acros covered, and many leathers / soft corals. Also need some more uncommon corals which may be in the country. Layton
  13. And people think I'm crazy when I say that zeovit adds a nutrient. :-?
  14. Mine get the harpoon treatment if they annoy me enough Layton
  15. Sorry internet explorer and firefox, and god knows how many other browsers seem to choke for no reason when a filename contains a full stop in it (poor programming if you ask me). The image displayed fine for me. Here it is again for the dumb browser programs :
  16. Chimera's fav ... a juvenile emperor angel. It envetually turns into this:
  17. Some of the brown hairy crabs can be sps eaters. If it were me, i wouldn't be putting it in my tank. Layton
  18. There is plenty of "poo" in those rocks for bacteria to eat.
  19. Or save the extra $300 and get the Deltec, you'll find it much better value for money. Layton
  20. I only realised the lame pun, after I posted it.

    MAF Review

I've been asked to assemble part of the coral list which will be contributed towards the review. I am collecting the information into a database in order to keep track of it properly. Here is a link to more info. This is so that you can have your input into what is included. http://www.nzreefs.com/phpBB2/viewforum ... bacac7ca89
  22. There's a little irony in that statement.
