  1. Ooo we can vote here too! 2 - loaches. However, when I saw you on Saturday you mentioned you've already done loaches before. Catfish are cool from #1, I'd probably prefer rainbows over tetras though.
  2. It's quite amusing pulling meta info out of photos. People are so unaware of it. Especially phone pics that have GPS locations.
  3. I paint all of my tanks. Since the paint is directly on the glass, I think it looks better than anything else as you notice backgrounds when there are uneven spots. It shouldn't be that hard to remove with a decent scraper. However, seeing Amelia's nice tanks yesterday, I can see why she wouldn't want to paint them. Would be a lot of effort to move. One of my tanks with painted black background. It pretty much hides the massive filter in the corner and gives it heaps of depth. The colours of the plants and fish pop too.
  4. Could be handy info for other people looking to buy it and wanting to know how much to get.
  5. Except you pay more for decent quality food and larger sizes. Burger fuel and burger wisconsin are a whole level above the standard takeaway places. Kind of like comparing a steak from a good restaurant with a steak from Denny's.
  6. But the burgers are a meal on their own. They're huge. <3 BW
  7. My partner and I got it when we went to Auckland a few months after they first opened. Neither of us could finish anything we got, it was the worst fast food we've ever had.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/user/Queensland/reeflive Starts at lunchtime today and goes for 12 hours. To celebrate World Oceans Day we’re taking the Great Barrier Reef to the world like never before – in a 12 hour YouTube Live event! Tune in here on June 7 from 10:00 AM (AEST) and join a team of marine biologists as they explore what happens live on the Great Barrier Reef, and hear from the world’s leading marine experts, which will highlight why it is so important to protect our oceans.
  9. Mass can't change into energy. Stored energy in an animal is fat, but it's still mass. You can take the energy in something and put that energy into something else, but since you've got a closed system, there is no where else for it to go.
  10. Raspberry pi is an ARM device that runs linux. So pretty much any language you want that can be compiled / run on an ARM based linux OS.
  11. It's your home page?
  12. BB has to be one of the best shows out there at the moment. I hate this wait mid season for the finale! Another show from AMC that I quite liked that not many have seen is called The Killing. It's a crime drama (which I don't normally like), except it's far more realistic and doesn't have any flashy hollywood stuff or cheesy lines. Follows a single case over 2 seasons.
  13. Their are alot of people whose first language is English that get this stuff wrong. You have to give in and just let it happen, otherwise you'll be here forever fixing it. p.s. Mistakes on purpose, first two annoy me and I bet a lot (hint) of people don't even realise the 2nd one is wrong.

    Hi

Hi and welcome. Sorry again for the delay in activating your account.
  15. I've got some Tunze wavemakers and they're good, probably pricey compared to others though.
  16. Maybe, I'll have to have a think how that might work for my situation. Not sure I want to rely on a siphon though, as the nano tank will end up with no filtration at all with whatever system I put in.
  17. Don't want to use an overflow because I can't fit them on either tank ... well not without cutting out the lids. Asthetically, it wouldn't look too good. Initially freshwater, but if I can get it working, I'll put the nano back into marine. I have a large freshwater and large marine tank running at the moment in the room.
  18. Has anyone got any experience or links to forums where people are pumping water between 2 tanks, without using overflow boxes or drilling. The 2 tanks I'm considering are at different heights. One is a nano and it would be much easier to keep it stable by using the water from the other 350L tank. I'm considering running 2 pumps and rigging them up with float switches and inline solenoids to prevent a siphon effect. I think it would be too risky to have them both running at the same time without float switches. Considering 2 possible ways of rigging it up. Sequence 1: Nano tank pump turns on, drains until a float switch in the nano tank detects the water level has dropped to a pre-defined point. Nano tank pump turns off. Main tank pump turns on, runs until a float switch in the nano tank detects the water level has raised to a pre-defined point. Main tank pump turns off. Repeat. Sequence 2: Nano tank pump turns on, main tank pump turns on. If water level in the nano tank hits upper limit float switch, turn main tank pump off. Turn back on when it drops below again. If water level in the nano tank hits lower limit float switch, turn the nano tank pump off. Turn back on when it raises above again. I think to make sequence 2 work, I'd need 4 float switches, otherwise it might be too sensitive. Lower limit (for turning nano pump off), lower limit but a little bit higher (for turning nano pump back on). Upper limit (for turning main pump off), upper limit but a little bit lower (for turning main pump back on).

    Awesome pics! :cophot:

  21. The thermostats are often wrong. Just measure it with an in tank thermometer. You can get them pretty cheap from a pet store. Don't rely on the stick on ones. 22 sounds OK, if you went up another 2 degrees, then 24 is probably pretty ideal. As long as the heater is keeping it at the temp you want, that's all that matters. If a heater is showing signs of failure, replace it immediately.
  22. Yeah I probably just got unlucky. I've got another 10 or so Jagers that are all fine. I have 2 aqua one heaters, both 25W ones, and only used occasionally.
  23. I've got a burnt out Jager and 3 burnt out Juwel heaters. All >=300W. Haven't really found any brand I'm happy with, but I mostly still run Jagers in my tanks.
  24. I've got a Juwel Rio 400. The heaters fail after a few years, have had them lock on on all 3 Juwel tanks I have. Filters work well, as long as you're happy having one in the corner inside the tank. The tanks and stands look nice, I think they're a lot nicer than any other brand tank available.
