Yes but like with everything else that gets covered will subside ones it runs its course. I run just enough to cover the bottom unless flow blows it around too much but slightly bigger grain should help. Can always be removed easily if only 1cm deep

Hey Tim long time! I answered a few for ya.

Then you havent used an aquaclear 110 I used to run 2 of those badboys on a 75g that housed big messy cichlids such as oscars. Awesome turnover, grunty, good capacity and a breeze to maintain, extendable intakes for deep tanks too. Better options than most very average canisters IMO (such as sunsuns, aquaones etc..) Good surface movement enables you to inject large amounts of Co2 safely aswell. They make great refugiums when modded too , and if the flow is too great, just buy a spare impellor and cut a blade or two off Small canisters such as the Eheim 2213 or 2215 are excellent and simple but i wouldn't run one of anything near what they say they are rated to - a 2213 is brilliant on say a 40-80L tank even though it says its rated to nearly 250L... You want good water movement all around the tank to distribute nutrients and co2 (and oxygen) evenly.

Its okay once the level is set right. Ive still got no livestock but its still pulling some weak skim. For the $$$ its worth it, better than no skimmer. I wouldnt put one in a display due to the microbubbles, behind a false wall is fine. Adjustment isnt great, venturi pretty much has to stay full open and the water level inside the skimmer set to minimum otherwise itll be doing water changes for you

Finally recieved my hydrometer and my sg was waaaay off. Had to change about 10% SW and refill with RO to bring it down. Might have to start using my work scales (measure to 0.00Xg) to get my mixed water just right! And i now have enough purigen and phosgaurd to last approximately 7,200 days Finally ordered a WP10 today! As i was ordering through amazon (got some other stuff and free shipping), its 3-6 weeks away though And while i was there, ordered a new light unit. Just after more blue (the finnex is a plant unit). The wave-point HO led 12'' clamp on, 16W with 10 blues, 6x 10000k whites should give me the capability to grow softies.

Nitrites finally! Ammonia 1.0 Nitrates 0.25 Nitrates 10ppm 2 weeks i reckon will be ok to start stocking. Though if my patience can hold ill wait for the algae cycles to finish first. (diatoms, hair, cyano)

Thats not my tank! Cant get a pic of back of mine. I wanted a dymax xp30 but cant find one :-( Skimmer in 1st chamber would seem to work better as water can bypass the 2nd chamber via the gap at the bottom which i never sealed up.

I still don't see any nitrites showing up. Ammonia has gone down to 0.25 and nitrates still around 10ppm Tank was seeding with a piece of live rock a week ago in my filter area, and added some fish food twice in the last week (doesn't seem to be much die off from the dry rock. Ideas of what's happening? Haven't yet experienced the algae cycles yet, but I'm not running my lights.

Nice. be interesting to see how well it works. I just recieved a resun sk300 (kent nano skimmer) and fits snugly in the middle chamber. Hows the WP10 in there? too much flow or can it be tweaked down enough?

Plant on the right is an acorus species common known as Japanese rush and is a marginal plant that will wither and die submerged. Suggest you remove before it starts to rot.

Finally managed to ID my rock, its pukani, and from reading this stuff leaches phosphates like mad, I'm hoping this isn't the case with mine. I already have a 500ml jar of phosgaurd on the way, and cycling with lights off.

Cool cheers Dave. Skimmer arrived. Kent nano skimmer also sold as a resun sk300. Fits snugly in 2nd chamber. I've had one before and wasn't impressed but then I was expecting it to pull better skim than it does. Particularly sensitive to water level too, but for a total of 42$ shipped i though worth another go even if it pulls weak tea-like skim. Better than an air driven unit, the only other option that will fit is the tunze 9002 but costs $299... Which is a lot for something I don't really need. Not my tank, but shows it fitted in the middle chamber of an aquanano 40.

Medium light. Fast growers like polysperma were putting on 6 inches per week, and was getting some gsa also. Highly rate it. I would say on something deeper than this it would be low light at the substrate. All in all love it and still using it. Great value.

Just go slow on the stocking with 50% weekly water changes and you wont need to worry too much. Recommend buying a load of fast growing stem plants until your slower growing plants establish themselves, they will take care of nutrients and help with algae. Things like indian fern, blue hygro, polysperma. All readily available . Buy seachem prime for water conditioner. Better than the rest. Also detoxifies nitrogens into forms less harmful for fish but can still be used by the bio filtration.
