  1. Ive lost 2 clowns in 3 weeks Out of my original pair, the first one went carpet surfing. Replaced it a few days later, ensured i went and got a bigger one - seemed to get on ok. Yesterday that one went carpet surfing. Parameters have always been spot on and corals look great. Any ideas? not going to replace with another clown at this stage.

    200L Reef Tank

Depends, I like to hand pick my pieces to get the shapes I want. Usually about 13 bucks per kilo at hff

Otherwise what about 3 par30 or par38s on goosenecks? That would cost about 300 and aquaworld sell them Kinda like this except with shorter goosenecks http://s1159.photobucket.com/user/matt2 ... 7.jpg.html

Its more to do with the coverage. There simply won't be any light at the ends of the tank, you will end up with dark areas at the ends. You can raise the unit to give a better spread, at the expense of PAR for corals. If you do decide to start with one, make sure your hanging arrangement will allow for another. My friends tank is about the same dimensions and two is perfect.

Some of these eBay ones aren't bad. I've got a friend who has 2 and they look OK. Only reason I never got one is you have to suspend them whereas coralbox comes with mounts

I'd say go LEDs. If they are more costly initially it will balance out as you won't be replacing tubes yearly and they use comparatively less power. Plus you get much better colour options. The coral box is great. Different colour channels that can be in independantly adjusted as well as built in timer functions for them, and with LEDs you don't have to worry about input voltage from overseas as they all have variable power supplies kinda like a laptop power supply.

Bubble magus are great skimmers, a lot of people use the curve 5. How much are the t5?s coral box m1 90cm is a better option

    Those marinelands are pants.
  9. I designed a shallow tank with built in false wall that wil fit my stand, but would mean buying a new light. 60cm wide is max i can go on current light. Penetration not an issue as lights are only at 50% currently so can just crank them up.
  10. Considering upgrading to a 120l juwel lido. All current equipment should work - skimmer, heater lighting wp10 for the tank size. Downsides are ill have to ditch the lids so evap might be bad And without a sump or false wall equipement will be slightly visible (though it does have quote a large black border around top edge but my skimmer is white... Stocking would not increase much, id have my main piece of rock set off centre, with a small island or two of rock on the other side kinda iwagumi styles. Thoughts? Im still waiting for kongs to get back to me regarding the new aquanano 60...
  11. Updated FTS. Algae and nutrient levels have balance out. Got a nice big red candy cane to finish off my LPS stocking. Also a cute citron goby, hasn't coloured up yet as hes only been in a few hours.
  12. It pulls out a staggering amount of crap. My nitrates are almost undetectable now.
  13. Id say in the dead quiet of night its not silent!
  14. Quiet except for the air intake noise. Though in my lounge I'm not too bothered, otherwise I'd make a venturi silencer of some sort
  15. Only just saw the photo of your rear chambers. Now you've taken out the cartridge holder that's huge! Way bigger first compartment than mine whereas mine are all even ish. So yeah plenty of room, just check measurements of any skimmer but recommend the bubble magus . should fit easier than mine but still have to shave a few mm off the base
  16. Turn the flow right down, remove the cup. Increase the flow until its at the point where its just about to overflow. Refit cup and it should be pretty close to where you want it
  17. amazon. got 3 of the upto 25gallon packs for $50nz inc shipping
  18. Nice. If your after gadgets you could look at an ato and a reactor but both not needed
  19. If i go drier a lot gets stuck in the neck of the cup. Will lower the water level next week and see how it goes, cheers
  20. I'll try and keep it isolated on the piece of rock its on, grow it like a moss ball! Just ordered a load of chemi pure elite to help with algae, phosgaurd doesn't seem t do much despite regular changes and overdosing
  21. Rock isn't even purple, just lighting. Its all kinda brown with some purple and brown bits. Diatoms are starting to get me down though, can't get them to stay away
  22. So tank is always looking like this about halfway through the week (between weekly cleaning) - Still diatoms The Bubble Magus is tuned in now and producing good skim Got a nice 3 headed torch last weekend. Polyps are short and stubby but apparently this means its happy? Candy cane not looking too happy after chopping if off its frag plug and attaching to rock Wee GSP frag growing nicely Hairy mushroom looking unhappy after moving onto another piece of rock. Should bounce back. Anyone able to ID this algae? Its brown, hard spots and not slimy.
  23. Guts. Fitting a skimmer into the first compartment of those new ones is a no-go. Could always try and mod it by cutting out that baffle
  24. tapwater will make a marine tank the bane of your existance. been there done that and gave up first time around. With nanos you can get away with buying Puredew water from countdown - 10L bottles cost $6-7 otherwise as mentioned youll need a RODI unit or means of collecting real salt water
