    Hi there

    hi Tuffers Welcome!
  2. Hi there My son started with a fender squier and amp package , it's been fine. His guitar tutor said it's a great guitar for the money. i think he paid $400 from gorilla music
  3. a handreared cockatiel lol! otherwise out of the other two .. go for a budgie.. an active little chattebox . lovebirds are way louder! best to get a handreared bird as it will already be tame and dependant on human company.
  4. wow that's amazing! We wern't so lucky with our lovebird. The cat bought it in the next day... dead. A few days after that the same cat bought us a tame rat - alive.. I wonder if he was trying to say sorry lol
  5. congrats! You're the same year as my son but he's never been motivated enough to enter the science fair .. sigh.
  6. they're mainly in Northern NZ where the temps don't drop too low.. they are also more aggressive at warmer temperatures and hence are a big risk to inanga by ripping their tails off and depopulating the inanaga.
  7. I noticed they all disappeared after using prazi in the tank too! Not sure why I was getting them in the Hexy tank though.. I feed the betta pellets or bloodworms, one at a time and he eats them before they hit the bottom. The only other fish in the tank (baby black whiptail) gets 1/2 sinking or shrimp pellet every other day and the betta gobbles up most of that too. Weekly or fortnightly gravel vacuum but I still get them from time to time.
  8. planarian worms that are found in aqauriuams are white http://www.fishdeals.com/fish_diseases/ ... ite_worms/
  9. yes my female fighter will jump for food. Gave me heck of a fright the first time!
  10. I've seen them swimming, usually after the gravel has been disturbed.. my betta loves eating them!

is it the melafix you are talking about?
  12. Sam where abouts in Manukau are you? I know fincity (Petpac) in Takanini def has furan..it's hanging on a hook behind the other meds... not all the staff know it's there lol. If you haven't joined the petclub at petpac you should.. you get a $20 voucher to spend ... that would pay for your furan. Also animates botany.
  13. lol..how coincidental.. my girl asked me today if she could train her betta to do tricks.. I have no idea if that's possible.

  15. well when you're paying $675 more for just 15L more i would want to make sure the difference is warranted in quality and features. Is it really $675 more value?
  16. if you look at their dorsal fin .it is further set back than a guppy, it starts behind the position of the anal fin. Most noticeable when comparing females. A guppys dorsal fin is more or less directly opposite the anal fin . And I'm also sure gambusia gonopodiums are longer. When I ddi that stream visit I ahd a real good and close look at the gambusia to see how it was different to my guppy at home.
  17. that's interesting.. I recently accompanied some children to a stream visit and we had a waterways person come speak to the group. As part of her talk she scoops up some pondlife, the kids count the No. of bloodworms, caddisfly larva , shrimp etc and then return it... She told us that if she finds a mosquito fish she is required to remove (kill) it or face a fine! She is not to return it to the stream. They are an introduced pest fish and they compete with inanga and are very aggressive fish that will eat eggs and even the eyes from our natives. Gambusia (mosquito fish) are classified as Unwanted Organisms under the BiosecurityAct 1993 and People caught releasing or spreading or even selling them without an approval under the Biosecurity Act are liable, on conviction, to a fine. SO I don't understand why there would be objection to removing them from the wild .. in order to eliminate them by way of feeding them to bigger fish.

hi RedP glad u found the thread, hope you can get some help with your Goldies.
  19. yeah we have millions of those in our local ponds too! Gambusia. Are they Ok to feed to captive fish and turtles?
  20. his tail has been like this for 6 weeks and he's had plenty of water changes and some salt water and acriflavine dips. The tear HAS improved but the tail is still tatty. If you really think it is finrot I can put him in a hospital tank and treat with furan but I thought finrot would be more aggressive? I've got two platy in my hospital tank at the moment.. just quarantining them because they're new. I don't really want to take them out just yet. SO unless there's a strong consensus that my guppy has finrot, I'll leave him in the main tank and keep up the water changes.
  21. Out of interest, what levels of chlorine would be deemed harmful to add to a tank straight? I asked our water supplier for their chlorine levels and they told me the most recent sample taken form a testing point around the corner from me was: Cl2-R ' 0.88 mg/L Cl2-TotL '0.92 mg/ L These are levels that they sampled at a residential sampling point .. not at the water station. (June 09)
  22. My kuhlis are very fast when they want to be! Like snakey bullets whizzing around the tank when they get a fright and I've seen one at a LFS shoot right up out of the tank and onto the floor But they like a lower pH - that's true. I keep mine as close as possible to pH 7.0 but usually it's around 7.2
  23. i don't know much about cichlids but my guess would be they would eat the kuhli! My kuhlis don't really stir up the gravel that much , i rely on a fortnightly vacuum to get the muck out and I have a few trumpet snails that keep the gravel turned over and aerated as well.
  24. So what was the carcass you found?
