My Bettas have been getting only bloodworms and they love it. Sometimes mozzie larvae to shake it up a bit but they ignore flakes and most pellets. -
I've also found that the quality of plant growth is very good, just slow.

Ooo what kind is he and where from? Pics please! Just do as you normally do with fish, he's new so try and balance it out as much as possible. I do 50% cold tap water changes on Betta fry and they're fine but it's not my fish so be as careful as you feel needed. -
Added a small pump and that's got them swimming around a bit more, also makes all the fish poo and mircroworms collect in one spot. Turned it off now though as I've noticed more dead fry than usual :-? Just removed the pump, three of my biggest stuck in it as it came free last night. Plus twelve or so others now that I've cleaned it out. Gutted

Worth taking out and jarring the larger one? S/he's about twice as big as most of the fry, the closest one is about 2/3 of his/her size.
