  1. No, but I tend to overlook certain things. When I come up with something I seem to miss the flaws
  2. Old thread but we don't need another DIY CO2 thread  I just need some advise. Instead of buying a gang valve and waiting for it to be shipped to me, will this work just as well?
  3. Looks are everything to my mother  Plus I want to improve my construction skills and a tank with a custom perfect fitting stand for around $30.00 isn't bad 8)
  4. Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated 8) @ Smidey: I can't really put a central support if I want to have a sump as well Why should the end panels be extended over the back panel? @ Skippy: I also can't have anything 610 really, standard MDF is 2400x600 and this stand would use one sheet with almost no waste at all. Timber frame isn't viable also, too much hassle on top of MDF, may aswell just build a timber one.
  5. 54 litre, just a standard 600x300x300mm tank. So it's not huge, almost a nano
  6. I think I will go with the overlay doors. There will be a solid 600x600 panel at the back and a 292x600 on either side running up to the front. The top surface will be supported on all side except the front, is this okay? Thanks -Sam
  7. I've done some rough 2d plan views of the stand without the top surface. This one is just solid, six sides with no doors. This one has five sides and no front. This one has doors hung from the interior. This one has doors added to the exterior. There was one more similar to the 3rd picture, doors were mounted inside the base but outside the left and right panels, if that makes sense. Which one would be best for looks and a sump? Thanks!

    Co2 system

If you diffuse it well enough and use enough bottles, it can work. $30.00 I think?

    Co2 system

Same here sort of. I know that the system you've linked to is complete, just added CO2 and you're off. I'm assuming you've tried DIY too?
  10. Personally I'd ditch the WCMM and get 20 more neons, or keep the WCMM and get 10 more neons. Maybe a few more harlequins or ditch them all together, same with the pencils. I prefer to have 1 large school of one type of fish, you might be different though 8) Plant wise, I'd trim back the moss and tie it down better to give it some shape. Trim the stems too. HTH
  11. Those are clip on desk lamps from Bunnings, about $15.00 per lamp and bulb. One worked well on my nano tank, yet to see proven results from the larger tank but in theory it should work. In regards to the out-of-the-box stuff, try looking at T5HO units on TradeMe, they're slightly over $150 though
  12. Yes to watching house ( 8) ) but no to cleaning tanks ( ). I guess duckweed just gets everywhere, the tankS are behind me right now so I tend to flick between them and the computer.
  13. Here's a series of questions you can answer to help us help you What would you like to grow? How much are you willing to spend? How important is (are?) aesthetics to you? Are you any good at DIY? In regards to that lighthood, it's overpriced and outdated. T8 units are no longer top of the range. Yes they work fine but there are much more efficient lighting methods for only a slightly higher price (Hagen T5HO). When I got my T8's done, I first bought that hood, sold it then got some DIY T8 ballasts and sockets. Only $45 total as opposed to $135 without box for the 30-D unit. HTH
  14. When there is duckweed on your mouse :-?
  15. The difference is tropical. Tropical fish and inverts require less oxygen than their cold water counterparts 8)
  16. Really? I set mine to UK or Aus or something and it hasn't done me wrong yet. Added words like Glosso and Hairgrass though
  17. viewtopic.php?p=482517#p482517 Personally I think it's a waste of money, I need to come up with an idea like this
  18. Bare bottomed tank so no plants to use it Just the answer I was looking for!
