  1. wow that is cool ours weren't that blue, more blue on the body with brownish legs, and they were sort of transperant, not solid like that one.
  2. we found a couple of fairly big blue ones when digging out an old garden a few months ago, anyone want to hazard a guess at what type they were? Didn't get photos sadly but they were blue and about 10cm. If you don't know what a babel fish is you don't know what you're missing

    Im stoked!!

i got my first baby striatums yesterday Its so exciting :bounce:
  4. i just wish i had c4 lol here's two more i've heard that aren't too offensive Madonna cant believe her luck.. 3 more black kids up for adoption.. WHAT REALLY KILLED M.J. He spent 20 years turning white, and then they went and elected a black president
  5. There are unconfirmed reports of people hearing Thriller playing backwards from the morgue.Apparently he's de-composing.
  6. what a cool idea thats the sort of enviromental thinking we need to see more of
  7. i've always listed 'heal the world' and 'you are not alone' as two of my all time favourite songs (despite laughter i've got for it lol) but I think they're truly beautiful and exceptional music that never fails to bring a tear to my eye. And of course the rest of his music is great to dance to, i love rocking away to it in the car. He will be sadly missed by many
  8. gosh thats beautiful and the pics on that link are amazing, the way they change so drastically, in such a short time i wish i had a marine tank now lol
  9. I have australes and scheelis in with guppies, with no losses, but they did go in there quite small. I think if i put my big scheelis in with them they'd probably have lunch, where as the ones who have always been there don't take any notice of them except when there's newborn fry, but hey so do the mother guppies lol. I guess it would depend what size killies and type you were getting. As well as guppies they share with female bettas.
  10. you can get into uni without ncea credits, i looked into it at one stage, you just have to be over 20, and able to show that you are competent to do the course. So if you're a maori leaving school with no qualifications, and want to go to uni, you'd be best to get a job for the couple of years till you turn 20 in a field that relates to what you want to study, then if you can show you're up to the course you can get in on the basis of your experiance. Still have to do a test to show you can read and do simple maths though.
  11. he had it spot on when he said that the imbalance needs to be addressed much earlier, free uni entry isn't going to help if they can't read and write. Shame she didn't understand the question lol. More money for extra teachers to help pick up those kids who are struggling is whats needed, regardless of their race. Reducing class sizes would be a good start.
  12. I have them with guppies, and they only eat the babies. If the babies make it to a couple of days old they ignore them though, which is a shame when you have too many
  13. are you able to post it? i'd love some for my new tank
  14. me too i've tied rocks onto the bottom of it, hoping if its weighed down for a while it'll sink eventually...
  15. they've still got a webpage up - http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~zebra/zebra_pleco.htm I stumbled across it and got excited, till i asked about them here and found out no one is known to be breeding them, and few people even have them.
  16. nope was thinking for my new tank, its 250L with assorted rocks and driftwood etc, will be running it empty for a few weeks and checking the ph before adding anything, but thought something like that might be useful to keep an eye on it after the initial period. I imagine the driftwood will lower it slightly and some of the rocks will raise it slightly, if it gets too low or too high i'd rather change the balance of stuff in it than start fiddling with the ph up/down stuff. Our other community tank i never test, it doesn't have anything in it that should change the ph and the fish always look happy so i leave it at that.
  17. I'd never seen them before but there's one for sale on that auction site, like a themometer sticker thing that shows ph instead. Has anyone got one and do they work? Reliably? Seems like a good idea.
  18. and to rant some more, the next week we were watching one of those police shows, and a p lab was busted, where there was a dog living, and the spca picked it up and cared for it until the owner was bailed and could pick it up. I made a furious call to them about how they treat p cooks better than genuinly needy pet owners.
  19. oh and good on chch spca for helping out, we tried to get auckland spca to help accomadate our pets the first night, but they refused to do anything unless we wanted to surrender them. Ditto every boarding kennel in the area, all were full and couldn't help, but in the end i just slept in my car with the dogs and that was the best option anyway, nothing beats a pile of doggyness for comforting
  20. we had our home arsoned when i was a teenager, by a psyco flatmate who didn't want to be moved out. Its a horrible experiance I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Despite an immediate arrest it took years to finally get to court, then the person spent all of a month in jail before getting out on home d to their mothers house, to be waited on hand and foot for the rest of their sentance. Meanwhile we got nothing back and had nowhere to live for a while.
  21. good thinking, i'll do some 'overflow' holes too
  22. lol i guess i'll have to just frustrating, i have to wait a week for the silicon to dry before i can test it out why can't it dry instantly grrr
  23. does it matter what size the holes are each? I mean, if they are small will it comes out as a spray, or will it just flood the box? Or if they are big will it only come out the easiest ones? Lol you can see i have no idea, i haven't seen what one of these looks like.
