  1. what other fish do you have in the tank? :-? and why do you only need a heater now? after 3 months.
  2. brown algae is a real pest if the algae eater does not find and eat the algae, clean the plants in water using your hands or a small brush. RE a heater, don't buy the cheap ones I did and I spend a good hour a day trying to get them to stay at one temp. because if you turn the dial to 25'c it heats the tank to 28'c. Aquaone & Jebo make good ones but be ready to pay $30+.
  3. mine eats the algae off my live plants so I don't see why not, I think it will find and eat the algae on the plants when it runs out of food else where. also you will in the future need to feed it some sort of bottom feeder food as the algae will soon be gone as they eat it very fast and its only a small tank.
  4. I have been told before that moving sand around is a normal thing for them to do, but when there is gravel on top it seems a little strange. :-?
  5. I have a algae eater like you in a tank with sand but mine does not dig holes, maybe he/she is looking for food do you feed it as they do need more than just algae.
  6. sorry I did have a link "but it's a big no no here" there is a person by the name of waterplants on the other site, who does great deals 30 plants for $10-$11? :-?
  7. hi I got your PM, if you want a community tank then I'd go with the following fish as I have these in my tank at the moment and there has been no problems. guppies, black widows, zebra danios, leopard danios, and pretty much any tetra (although neons are not good with guppies because they nip their fins).
  8. this is the world number 1 cheng siu wan - hong kong but I like this one world number 14 masashi ono - japan great link
  9. I had one that had sponge rings.
  10. NICE TANK, I have never had one before but Aqua One is a good brand so parts should be easy to find new or used on trade me etc.... what type of fish will you be keeping in it. please add some photos when you have it set-up
  11. hi sorry I forgot to say that the light from pic 1 has been upgaded to a 20w.
  12. if 20w + the SUN = low light then I give up :-? (the tank is in a bay window that faces north)
  13. got one but as soon as i upgrade the tank he's in with live plants he will be gone.
  14. the tank before (about 4 weeks ago) .... the tank now ... sorry but the fish are a bit camera shy  and here is my current project ...
  15. Ok, so a few weeks ago I set-up a 90L planted tank with help from the forum. The plan was to let the tank cycle and then add fertilisers and co2 later. anyway it's been a month and the plants are going great almost to good because they are almost hitting the water line and its a deep tank!, do I still need fertilisers etc. or not. The filter has a spray bar so i guess its putting some co2 in.

  17. If you like the males you could keep them in their own tank, and have a select group of females in a tank. then rotate the males? :-?
  18. hi great size tank (I have 2), maybe 3 to 1 male would be enough but I keep guppies and no from experience that if there is to many males the females are constantly harassed and the males try to breed with fish that are already pregnant! also about generations thing this is a great idea! but all I can say is good luck, as the males will breed with anything that moves. yes 30x30x30 is a good breeding size just watch how many fish are in there at once.
  19. If your tanks the right size 50L + then try using sand (aquarium sand sold at pet shops) this will make growing plants easier and stop the tiny guppy fry from going into the gravel. otherwise use gravel (small pebbles about 1cm round) from the pet shop! P.S guppies are great but make sure there are 4 females for every male.
  20. ... also maybe posting a photo would help out with finding an answer? :-?
  21. My tank is like that but that is because I've just added sand, I would put your plants and stuff back in and wait it may still be cycling in which case the murky water is normal, How long have you had fish in the tank? Also see what others say but if the tank is still cycling then I would take out any expensive fish! good luck.
  22. Dick smith has a range of different plugs etc. if you take you mp3 in there might be one that fits? :-?
  23. thanks ryanjury, now I know where I was going wrong when posting pic's. any tips on keeping the fish?
