  1. just because they may not be able to properly digest the wood, does not mean its not essential, some herbivores ingest small stones as a crucial part of their digestive system.
  2. a month ago there was a break in and theft just across the road from us. at 3pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon! we were home and didn't hear or see anything, its very un-nerving knowing how completely brazen the    are.
  3. most of the important information sales people need to know about fish can only be learnt from actually keeping the blighters anyway. simply telling them that "if good bacteria is not given enough time to build up in the filter, than they will have ammonia problems and possibly lose their fish" just doesn't have the same affect as having the situation happen to you, and will probably be lost in amongst the many other pieces of information told to them.
  4. Well done!! I hope she brought you a beer after that because you deserve one. Scott not Tania she just left herself logged in
  5. pics of your pleco's? pretty please?
  6. if you want to suck up muck from the bottom, I use a large syringe with a bit of irrigation tubing on the end to suck that up, haven't sucked up a fry yet! and for just normal water changes I use a white measuring cup (the ones used for baking) and just gently scoop water from the top of the tank, if any fry get scooped up they are visible against the white of the cup. we use a smaller tank for the breeding so water changes are quicker and easier than in a large tank. a bit time consuming but its worth it to see them grow up nice and healthy.
  7. they look stunning when they settle down and go their proper dark brown/ blackish colour. ours I swear have already grown heaps since we brought them 2 weeks ago. congrats
  8. lol unlike scottie and myself, the flatmate has a social life and is unavailable for comment.
  9. You could buy a beer fridge and put your sump inside it with holes for the water in and out
  10. How old is he? What are you feeding them? Have you seen any poo lately (might be constipated) ?
  11. Animates can order them in for you. I think a 2 pack is about $18 from memory and you can get 5 packs too
  12. they do look awesome! will get some of my own once I remove the clowns we already have in the tank.
  13. probably best to take the gravel out of the tank next time as well, as he wont be able to pick up the eggs once they fall beneath the top layer. a bare bottom tank is best although our fighters also did well with a substrate of sand. HTH
  14. me and scottie arent really 2 seperate betta breeders tho. but most people dont realise that VT's arent quiet as rare and interesting as a CT or DT or HM. so when they see VT's in CHCH selling for a couple a bucks, then they just assume that all the rest of the bettas will sell for that price, and get grumpy and refuse to buy a well bred fish of another tail type that is being sold for anything more than they saw the VT going for.
  15. I do have a high end kit and also an industrial full range test kit if anyone needs to use it
  16. hope he's settling in well for you Brett
  17. your delta is a copper, looks exactly like our ladies. as for the cambodian, even our plakat females have longer fins than she does. id say just a VT really, had a few of them a while ago that looked similair this was one of our VT's for comparison.
