at the end of the day ... only the strongest will survive..
but if you use infusoria could you cope with a spawn of say 350-500???
even my spawns where i get 150-180 i find that hard enough to try keep the tanks clean etc
as they create soo much waste
microworms a good starter but i would switch to bbs after a week or two to give them a good go at growing
microworms makes them grow very slow as there isnt that much protein in them i believe?
common from over feeding
if you feed him too much hel get bloat ... not a good thing
just cut back a little of feeding as he can develop gill problems if he stays too big for too long
you mean imfusoria ... bacteria in other words
appar it works well.. alot of people are skeptical about it as ur introducing a unknown to the tank
ur technically using rabbit pellets..horse poo..lettuce ..grass and letting the bacteria level get out of hand then go clear (which means its worked) so then you feed the clear water to the fry (full or yummy infusoria)
i havent tried it but from what ive read people dont do it much
even tho this is generally a way to make the biggest amount of your fry survive the first few weeks
scotty841 said bout having hm at moment?
you could try bribing them to let some go
im currently holding my stock to grow them out a bit but looking good
fish will live the true life if in ideal conditions etc. their lifespan can vary dramatically due to stress , overloading , water changes etc
id be stoked to get 6 years out of my fish
may be something else have you checked this site for symptoms/diagnosis?
http://www.fishvet.com/diagnosis_charts.htm
hope you get it sorted
Hey Sam...
yeah some of the colors are really begining to come in now
ive treated all the tanks with IAL for now so its really hard to take piks
i normally dose the tank then WC it till its gone
then re dose... just so they dont become reliant on it
since ive dosed it looks like the colors are improving already , some of the colors are becoming more vibrant
down side is the visibility in the tank is minimal... bad for photos but not too bad for looking at
the black hm spawn has almost caught up to the reds in size which is funny because of the almost 2 month age difference!!
amazing what diff food makes!
Bumping my thread with some update piks
Note took some photos before tank cleaning... should have done it after LMAO!
Heres some of the Red/Orange Hm Spawn @ 14weeks (yes they still small didnt have good diet to start with)
Heres some of the blue/black hm spawn @ 7weeks
they are showing alot of different colors at mo.. a few are red, some are showing signs of black.. one showing black body with red and black fins .. they are being a pain to take photos of as moving around so much
if she gets too full she will drop her eggs..not a bad thing providing shes not getting too fat
my condolenses (sp) for the male
unfortunately it happens .. just hard not knowing what went wrong
bubble nest is a good sign hes happy
but dont stop the treatment!
id continue for 14days atleast to make sure you stop all stages of the cycle or it will come back
youve done well
from what i understand if you didnt have a lid or glad wrap on the tank , they breath cold air not moist warm air and this can cause problems..
i def use plants etc in fry tanks.. gives the female and fry somewhere to hide
never used glad wrap in the tank before... mite give it a go tho could be interesting
so did you use cling film for the male to build the nest in ??
random.. i always though clingfilm to cover the tank to keep the humidity up so the fighters dont get pheumonia (sp) or something..
???
hey if it works keep at it lol
lol yeah clingfilm could work.. dont you find it clings together if you open it to feed the dad? or remove the female???
ive never tried it.. always used lids
the air technically is in the bubbles
but they dont actually develop the "laybrinth" until they are a bit older
they require the oxygen thats in the water until they grow up a bit
yup the cup is taped above the waterline to secure it to the tank.. i didnt have much sucess with the cup
i opted for the floating poly as many use.. he can build a amazing nest under it and it holds it together much better
i generally get spawns of 100-250 from this method (sometimes smaller spAWNS)
some are culled and some dont make it tho
very correct ron
furan and fridge... no (if it was decently sealed it shouldnt cuase a problem tho ie no chance of leakage)
i just seem to have alot of fridges that i can use whatever for around here ...
ones that dont have food etc in them
have edited my post to save any confusion
you dont happen to have any decent fighters for sale at mo do you ron?
yup stro cup works all good.. i prefer a cutdown sheet of flat polystiren.. it gives a flat surface to build them under
seems to work all good for me .. the cup one i found if i adjusted the level of water it drastically disturbed the nest etc.. even water falling from the lid bumped it around alot
sam... you tank sounds all good.. just make sure you condition them properly and give the female a few places to hide etc
