Here is one of my 'rare' fishes. It's a male Palmas buttekoferi approx. 30cm.
He has quite a lot of yellow on him compared to the other bichirs we get here.
    Nice Cories guys.

Hey everyone! Share your FTS (full tank shot), let's see what NZ'rs are keeping.
    I'll start.
My tank is a 450L home to 3 species of polypterus, 1 convict cichlid, 1 red oscar, and 1 Cuban cichlid.
Tank will eventually be a dedicated setup to a breeding pair of Cuban cichlids once I grow a suitable male to maturity.
I recently re-scaped it by removing a large piece of wood, adding the twiggy bits and getting a greater size range of stones to make it more naturalistic.
Keen to see other people's stuff!

I might suggest a group of firemouths (x5) let them pair off. They grow quite slowly, so 150L could accommodate 2 pairs for a wee while, or one large pair plus dithers long term. Convicts are easy and under-rated, I have a very nice female with great colour and finnage but not fussed about finding her a male even though she deposits eggs every few weeks on her own.

All the fish are doing well, the female Green Terror currently has a batch of babies hidden in a cave. Hoping to grow some of them out.
The Jack Dempsey is camera shy so thats the best i could get.

Hard to tell from that photo, but I'd say male JD

The parents are now separated as I noticed a big reduction in the number of fry since last night.  About a dozen or so are left.
I started offering Repashy cubes which they seemed to have accepted now though initially there was some reluctance (ignored).
Feeding is around 4 times a day; twice each in the morning and evening (with 1 hour interval). When the parents were still there, I had done daily 30% water changes but might do less now, since the tank is relatively large (3ft 230L) for just a dozen fry.
Once grown up a bit, they will be moved to a smaller tank for easier maintenance.

Fry are free-swimming now. Their parents are doing a good job of corralling them, which makes it easier for me to feed.  At the moment, they are fed on decapsulated brineshrimp and NLS fry starter.  I might try offering them Repashy/pellet food after 3 weeks.
I might also separate the parents within a week or so, as this is just their second spawning.

This little guy [the shark] is possibly my favourite fish at the moment! He's had a good growth spurt since being added to the big tank, and filled out and coloured up really nicely. So far he's just cruising around completely ignoring every other fish, long may the relaxed attitude last.

Thomas the first time I've seen the angels spawn was about four days ago! Since adding the clowns I've been doing ~200L water changes every other day (just opening the valve on the sump drain and putting the hose into the tank to run for 112-15 minutes) and I think maybe that's kicked them into action.

I've had the festivums a few years, around the time I switched from big fish to small fish. TBH their colours are really drab and they've been pretty uninteresting to keep. Not good quality stock I think, there are some beautiful examples of the genus out there.

Got a new batch of fry (A-line) over the last weekend so I now have approximately 200+ new Geophagus orangeheads to grow out.
There are still around 50 juveniles from the first batch; might do a clearance sale soon.

It appears to me that they are:
    Melanotaenia boesemani - Boeseman's rainbowfish
Melanotaenia lacustris - Lake Kutubu rainbowfish
    Glossolepis incisus - Red Rainbowfish
Melanotaenia parva - Lake Kuromai rainbowfish

I am not sure, image is not sharp enough, but looks liike Melanotaenia praecox -  Dwarf Neon rainbowfish too.

I've got a GT and two oscars in a 400 litre which will be going in soon. I'm hoping both the Oscars are the same gender. I'm still not sure what else I'll be putting in there. I want to end up with five cichlids to spread the aggression.
    I'm open to suggestions

Currently a couple of goldfish until my heaters arrive. Then it's going to house American cichlids.

Ok here's my Chocolate Zebra Hotel. 100L tank, 7 fish in there, all hiding.
Can you spot 5 of them in the dark photo?

The species I have is palmas buttekoferi I believe, I'm not sure palmas palmas is still a valid species. Mine is between 25-30cm.
Delhezi's are my favourite, especially the ones with quality stripes.

Which species? Doubt you'd find P. palmas palmas, but they along with delhezi and senegal would do best in at least 300L. Tall tanks aren't ideal, they prefer long and wide footprints. Some people keep them in less but I find they make use of a larger volume.

Their parents have spawned a new batch of eggs within the last 24 hours.  Here's a video of them prior to spawning:
The new batch is the third one.  Like hovmoller's, most of the second batch were eaten.  I saved about a dozen of the second batch through separation.  The second batch were spawned around June, about 7-8 weeks after the first one.
For size estimates, that catappa leaf is about 22cm long, which would put the male (at the back) roughly around 12cm at 24 months old.
