  1. Well.. In our defence, normally we hate to show any signs of weakness. So if we are at the point of calling feebly for a glass of water, it must be a really bad bout of flu. :tears: Besides, we put up with monthly PMS, so why can't we have a few days to ourselves every couple of months? :slfg: *ducks to avoid flying high heels*
  2. My fiance and I strike a nice balance. I cook European meals really well but suck at Asian dishes. She's the opposite. So, depending on what we feel like, one of us cooks. We know a couple whose agreement is, if you cook, you wash. Their reasoning is that it ensures that the cook doesn't use excessive numbers of dishes and cutlery because they're cleaning up after! Different strokes for different folks!

    The What's Up? thread.

&c:ry No wonder the clown in your DP is crying..
  4. Personally, I would K.I.S.S. If the eventual turnover rate is the same, then don't bother with two, because it is essentially double the mess/ hassle. Double the wires, hoses, intake pipes, inflow pipes. While two filters are better for maintaining the bacteria because you clean one at a time, most people get along just fine with one filter because they don't wash all the media at once. For me, I never clean the bio media in my filter, I only rinse the sponge/ wool (just to be safe).
  5. lol! Such a bogan tank! You can just imagine the fish rocking out to some AC/DC..
  6. Omg, I wonder how he keeps the bottom of the tank so pristine!
  7. It'll be going in with an arowana, a sailfin pleco, an ornate bichir and a fire eel.
  8. Sorry to hijack the thread, but are they any good as a clean up fish? I'm considering getting one as a clean up crew.. Any thoughts?
  9. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!
  10. Welllll... A video would be nice.
  11. Hmm.. Hadn't thought about that! I hope that the heat pump will also double as a dehumidifier lol. My hi-fi is actually right next to the tank at the moment, haven't noticed any problems (yet). But it's not top-end stuff anyway, just enough for my listening pleasure - not a top-notch audiophile haha! Well, if the cost is reasonable, I can wing it and run it past the wife lol. Otherwise, I don't think a walled fish tank is worth a divorce haha!
  12. Bird Barn's my local for specialized fish - got my arowana/ ornate/ albino senegalus/ delhezi/ fire eel there. Geez, come to think of it, I think I should be getting trade discounts at this rate! *hint, hint!*
  13. In my experience Animates is overpriced for both dry products and fish, unless they have a special on. Also best to take a real good look at the fish before purchase - often see lots of dead fish in the tanks. I've been to Aqua Village as well. Not bad, but unless you're after discus, it's a bit of a drive. Pretty standard fare, fish-wise.
  14. My plan is to buy a house with a garage. Seal off the door and insulate the walks heavily. Gonna have my two large tanks inside and a heat pump running 24/7 to keep a constant ambient temp. Will also have a couch and my record player inside. It'll be my den haha. Somewhere to have some solitude and watch my 'kids' lol.
  15. Such a fat jardini! Must be awesome to have a pond like that.. Too bad about the green water though. If I were him, I would go for a swim everyday lol.. Make my hobby healthy!
  16. Yeah I agree! Some grow slowly, but at least they grow. Some are still the same size as when I got them.. Better off feeding them to the bichirs haha. My aro eats them like they're mealworms. I draw the line at mice lol. Don't like handling mice and can't bear to see the aro eat a mouse lol..
  17. Ouch! Sounds like some sort of medieval torture style haha.. Torn apart by twin bichirs!
  18. Henward, as promised! Apologies for the darkness/ crappy quality. It was taken with an iPhone and I had to keep the light this way in order to prevent glare from the glass and to show the colour of the scales. I found that with very strong lighting, the scales lit up like a christmas tree and you couldn't see any colour, just bright white. I didn't use the blue lighting, just white - for accuracy! If you look really closely you can see a shimmer of blue-purple in the scales when he passes under the light or turns under the light.
  19. Wellll.. It's got a bit of spoon, but could add a bit more muscle. Too much and it will be a very sharp angle which would make the fish ugly. I reckon give that aro a few more months of good food and it should start to add girth. Doesn't look like it's going to grow much longer (judging by the photo)..
  20. That's a fine looking fish.. Not sure if I would push the bulk anymore though lol.. Maybe half an inch more at most? Otherwise it would look too spoony IMO. Dammit, I'm so jealous of asian fishkeepers haha.
  21. I think I see what you mean about the slimmer shape. The no drop eye is also a good perk lol. I dunno, maybe I prefer big fat aros to slim slender ones. I like my aros with some junk in the.. tail lol. I found another inspirational photo: My 2-year goal is to get mine to look like that (or as close as I can).. :spop:
  22. Ok, I'm just going to say it lol. What's so special about black aros? The colour fades over time right? Wouldn't it eventually end up looking like a brownish silver?
  23. Black arowana at HFF - $390.. Any takers??
