  1. How do you tell? I thought they look quite similar too. They are almost exactly the same length, but the second pic is slightly thinner across the body and appears to a sharper nose. Maybe I was just staring too long.
  2. MTS aren't good for puffers; their shells are too tough and can crack their teeth. So no one wants them
  3. Ramshorns breed much more quickly in a bigger tank. I started with a 15l tank to breed them in but I just couldn't keep up with demand. Now I have a FW tank that they breed in really quickly, and 2 50L containers outside as back ups. You're best breeding both of them, as they go through population highs and lows, so you can have 1 type that will make babies when the other wont. Great idea for starting early; they'll eat you out of house and home very quickly!
  4. Most fish actually release hormones that prevent growth, it is just very very obvious in discus.
  5. I can take some pics of their tummies if that's helpful. They're about 6cm right now.
  6. You are much, much better actually cycling your tank properly. Those things may look like they're working, and who knows, some actually might even work; but you'll get a better understanding of what biological processes are going on, and how you can deal with issues later if you don't add any chemicals. Personally, I won't add any chemicals to my tank if I don't have a way of testing their levels or eliminating them.
  7. Maybe it's your male/female ratio. You should aim for 2 females to 1 male.
  8. You need to look at why they're jumping. Are they both females who have jumped? Stressed fish are more likely to carpet surf/kitchen bench surf in your case! Is their tank somewhere that you come around a corner too very quickly and could scare them?
  9. The bubbles are totally fine in my experience, also never had a problem with them raising the pH.
  10. I love the mitsubishi field day ad
  11. Yup, they'll be fine. Angels often need some practice at raising babies, so don't be disheartened if they eat them - mine took about 6 lays before they figured out they aren't food.
  12. Wow, that is one BIG sentence with no capitals! I guess this goes to show that pet stores have no idea what they're selling sometimes, I don't know how anyone could confuse the two; they're completely different shapes, colours, sizes and type of fish.
  13. I had the same thing, my lumphead cichlids were living in a tank with big gravel for a few weeks while their new tank was being organised, then I moved them out, and raised the salinity in the old tank to 1.010, and added my 2 puffer fish. About 3 months later, when the salinity was about 1.018 (almost marine), I found about 10 fry, who were big and happy and healthy. They're still alive now (breeding themselves, actually!) 6 months on.
  14. There's several threads about the AquaOne tanks spontaneously cracking...I've got one and have never had a problem, but I know a lot of people have.
  15. I don't understand how when they're fishing, the fish can survive in their inventory for days on end. How do you do the insect catching? I haven't seen that one yet.
  16. Your post had capital letters in innappropiate places.
  17. I was confused for a second, then I realised the capitalization was just for decoration.
  18. Is that the sort of price range you're looking for? Make sure you go check it out and see what the landlord is like....you don't want a horrible landlord.
  19. Hmmm. I have a tank that is not level. The floor is perfectly level, the stand is level, but the water is 1cm higher at one end than the other. One side is deeper than the other end. It's very strange.
  20. It's ok, all sorted now. My mac is the best thing ever
  21. Does anyone in Welly have a MacBook Air superdrive that I can borrow for about a week? My computer isn't booting and I need the drive to do an external boot to get it working again and would prefer to not pay the $159 for it. I promise I would look after it very well if you can help.
  22. Paper plus have it. I think it's about $50 brand new. They do flybuys too.
  23. I had a moss wall a for about 6 months, but once it filled out, it got full of crud in the water and fish got stuck between layers and behind it. It was more hassle than it was worth, but it did look good for a month or so before it got bad looking. Another good way is using gutterguard, it's about $2.00 for a roll at bunnings, and it's quite rigid so it holds itself up.
