  1. Ill let someone else go into why you need certain types of blues and reds, but basically google the term "phytochrome" and do lots of reading. also plants need most of the light they get except the colour of the plant itself. that's why we see the plant as being that colour.

If I didn't think it wasn't going to improve the look of the tank, I wouldn't have suggested it. And more substrate will make it look better, and more natural. Not to you obviously, but to me and some others that have posted it would definitely make the tank look better.
  3. I'm a little confused as none of your current fish can be kept with natives. Natives need really really cold water, even elevated summer temperatures cause them problems, and what you have now would only be happy / survive in water that is over 24 deg C.
  4. eww  dark blue maybe... black would be fine too.
  5. yeah that stuff. only you can buy it in all these pretty colours and sizes and stuff   black is of course the only acceptable colour for a tank, so ...
  6. oh... ouch... well.. There's a Tui ad for you right there
  7. the prices quoted.... it says 18 fish $180. or is it $180 each?
  8. Even if they did, there is no way they would be $12 each! Large fronts have got to be one of the prettiest and graceful fish around.
  9. they will be fine even in a small tank for quite a while. kubotai loaches are order-able through shops.
  10. or those that don't want to own a rotor....
  11. float a loach in a tank for a couple of days, maybe more??? really? far out... don't do that... you are better off taking the stuff out of the tank and treating it. what loaches are they? Use a syringe to put flourish on the 'hot spots'.
  12. man... you guys really need to stop fighting over this topic over and over again.. its going to stop people from posting and interacting positively. as i read it johannes did not hold a gun to any one's head and force them to buy one fish. and if the buyer wants to only buy one fish, you can't stop them from doing that; and who are we to force our moral beliefs on someone else? Live and let live people. sadly almost all the african fish threads on here seem to follow the same trend. first positive, then caution about hybrid this, hybrid that, then name calling followed out by all out war. *catfish are soooo much nicer

less bubbles, more substrate.... different pieces of wood - maybe many medium pieces? A royal pleco
  14. bummer. what happened to him?
  15. we need a pic of the algae. and bn's are pretty useless at eating algae. young ones eat it ok.
  16. get them first little one.... keep them alive, and then attempt counting your eggs.
  17. Yeah, that's the background. its the black card stuff from the warehouse stationery. same material as real estate signs.
  18. ok... if you wish. but on your head be it. it is not red or pretty like in the photo. its in a poly box outside in the cold.
  19. did you use the search function?
  20. hahaha look at you eyeing it up. I only just got that for this tank  I have a massive pile of it (at least 3kg) of it outside, but that has staghorn on it.
  21. A normal 18000K tube would be practically useless for plants. A powerglo tube is specifically developed to have extra red end and blue end spectra, for freshwater plants and fish. That is why I usually say 18000K powerglo and not just 18000K tubes. A 14000K tube is one of the basic tubes you need in a marine tank. Then you add 20000K as well depending on what you have in there. A 10000K tube is bright white and is used for plants and in salt water tanks - again depending what is in the tank. Stock juwel lights are 1x 10000K and 1x 6500K t5 HO - although they do not call it HO
