  1. Dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if they were like 60 bucks each. maybe you can use tinfoil. Just remember that your plants like light and were happy with the light you were providing them with. What works, works. It will still provide light; just less of it. I think its brilliant.
  2. The tank comes with Juwels version of HO tubes and the suitable unit; so simply put - no you cannot substitute normal T5s with the HOs.
  3. Do you have the reflectors that you can buy with juwels? If you do just put it exactly the wrong way around so they reflect light up and not down. Problem solved with no mess.
  4. Indian fern? You'd have to deal with a few roots hanging down into the tank though.
  5. The sheer amount of water that condenses on the tubes and the inside of the hood should be enough reason to not use only one tube. So unless you silicone it up to conceal and waterproof the sockets I wouldn't risk it. Then there is still the matter of - Is it safe to use only one tube, when we specifically get told not to use only one tube with an electronic ballast and computer chip thing.
  6. Dunno. Just what I've been told. Not sure I'd want to experiment with $400 units.
  7. You'd be better off comparing 2 specific skimmers as opposed to two different brands. Deltec however is quite reputable.
  8. As a group? Perhaps the concept of "unity" should be on the table before you sit down with MAF.
  9. I don't think it is safe to run only one. Just like the other HO hoods.
  10. Cambodia is.. well its not a country really is it.. think it might be a kingdom or something like that. I'm sure he would have meant cabomba.
  11. Long fin tips = male Short fins = female. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/images/potm/20090703.jpg
  12. Count me in too I suppose. You have my details.
  13. You can downgrade to a juwel T8 but still that's a couple of hundred. Not worth it. Just use surface plants. I know I would. It makes the most sense.
  14. How to buy a thousand dollar tank and ruin it. DIY the light hood.
  15. Duckweed is good for that. As is tiger lotus which just happens to grow wonderfully in a juwel!
  16. 2 cups sugar, 2 teaspoons of yeast and warm water in a 3L bottle; filled a couple of centimetres over where the bottle starts going conical.
  17. Would not make a difference. A poison is a poison irrespective of biological source.
  18. Unfortunately the law does not expect cats to be restrained like dogs do; so the owners of the feral cat won't be liable for any vet bills. I think all cats should be locked up at night, even the friendly ones.
  19. Once every 6 weeks is how often you need to treat dogs and cats on average. You can flea bomb as you wish, but it is recommended to flea bomb the entire house / carpeted areas because there is almost no chance that you will have contained the fleas in one area of the house. Spraying / defleaing the bedding is also important. Pop a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner bag / cannister.
  20. Ouch. That is terrible. Hope your cat recovers fast! I'm glad you got there in time. That stray "pet" tom cat should have been shot.
  21. Tried black and brown in about 4 different tanks with 8 different fish and the browns always tattered the blacks.
  22. Don't mix black and brown, but given enough space, shade and hiding places you can have more than one BGK in a tank. I did.
