  11. Hi Sophia The "blue stripey ones" are Demasoni (Pseudotropheus demasoni) The yellow ones are Electric Yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus) The brown spotty ones are Giraffes (Nimbochromis venustus) The black and white ones are Juli's (Julidochromis Marlieri) Cichlids tend to move the sand round quite a lot so I've stopped rearranging the plants and they're growing...thanks for the tip though

  14. As the Giraffes grow out I plan to reduce numbers and if not then, as ryanjury so kindly pointed out, knowing me I'll probably end up getting a bigger tank...with the internet searches and gazillions of questions I asked and prior to setting up this tank hopefully I've covered every "eventuality".

  19. I was asking about the sands in my original posting as it's going to be far easier to get what I need down here even if I do have to pay for it. P44 & Ryanjury - With regards the Wanganui Sand....are any of the sands I mentioned in my posting similar to it as getting the amount of sand I want from Wanganui to Lower Hutt when I don't have a car would be quite a roadtrip for those involved.
  20. P44 - DOH!! I wasn't asking about Wanganui sand...did you actually read the posting Myfishybusiness - Thanks!!
  21. I'm about to set up my first African Tank so visited the local Garden/Landscape places in search of sand, gravel and rocks and now want to make sure the following types of sand are safe to use in a fish tank: Mortar Sand Dune Sand Plaster Sand Paving Sand Lime Sand I was advised by the people who served me that they were completly safe but just making sure (better to be safe than sorry)
  22. My thoughts are with you all down in Christchurch...hope you, family, friends and animals are all safe and well
