  1. It works perfectly,at full power it isn't to much and can easily be turned down or put on different settings (wave mode) for different effects.
  2. Got a two little fishes nano magnet cleaner today. It is such a great little cleaner for getting around the curved front corners of the tank. The in-tank part is a little thin bit of foam that is flexible to bend around the corners. And only 2.5cm square. Also modified my skimmer to give the bubbles more contact time with the water. It doesn't have a very efficient flow of water flow through it so that could be my next mod on it. Just need to find a tiny pump.
  3. I didn't build the skimmer. It is a RS-4003 protein skimmer, cheap Chinese thing. I don't really need it just yet because I don't have anything in the tank producing waste (fish). But thought I would try it out. If it doesn't work then no harm done because it cost next to nothing. I might try use something more effective later on when I need it. It get very exciting I am sure the wife will eventually figure out something is going on :sml1:
  4. Yes I made the media rack. I haven't put the Eheim in yet. It has to go in sideways to fit in the back so it will need a few elbow connectors and piping. If you put it on the bottom you only need one elbow at the top. Leaving room up top for the heater and more space in the second chamber for your skimmer. You also might need to drill the return hole into the tank slightly bigger. I think it is necessary if you don't use a wavemaker in there. The stock AquaOne pump doesn't create enough flow in the tank and detritus settles everywhere. I don't want any dead spots and the SPS corals will thank me for the extra flow I'm sure.
  5. After selling all my fish stuff and moved to Nelson I decided I couldn't handle not having a tank (3 months without one) So I have planned to put together an Aqua One Aquanano 40 51ltr tank. Not too nano and not too small. A lot of people seem to be doing nanos now. I plan to make mine mainly SPS dominant. Hopefully I don't run into too many troubles with a small tank. Here is a complete break down of what I will spend I already have most of the equipment. (the green tick is what I have) I will be upgrading the stock return pump with an Eheim compact 1000. There isn't enough flow with stock pump. I have made a media rack to go in the back compartment for zeolite, phosphate remover and filter wool. WP-10 wavemaker added for extra flow. This thing is so small and works well for this tank Tiny air-driven skimmer Here you can see the media rack and skimmer in. And on the nano air pump suction cupped to the back Some pics of the live rock and current mushrooms and sponges FTS - Tank was set up Monday night, 17th Feb
  6. I put mine in a 200ltr plastic drum. Chucked lots of power heads in,heated it and left it for 3 months, changed half the water every month. After the first month I chucked in a raw shrimp every week to feed the growing bacteria. Then put in my tank, waited a week and was ready for fish. This way I didn't have to look at an empty tank while it was cycling.
  7. Haha how did you end up finding that?
  8. Hard to get the tang sitting still. But heaps photos below. Colours mimic exactly the lemon peel angel. Replaced my weipro heater and controller with two new 300w aqua one heaters. This is my 2nd weipro heater that has crapped itself. Both not lasting more than a year. I have ordered a bubble magus doser and mixed up alkalinity and calcium solutions ready for when it arrives. Just need Epsom salts to mix with my mag chloride hexahydrate. Done a full test on my water to make sure everything is on check before I start dosing. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate all zero. Phosphates 0.03 Magnesium 1230 (added 430g to bring it up to 1300) Alkalinity 7dkh Calcium 440 Hopefully I can start to get better growth and colours from my corals with my dosing. I might look into some of the zeo coral supplements as well.
  9. Tiger cowries are non venomous. Generally reef safe until they get bigger like this one and can knock corals off occasionally.
  10. Bangaii isn't holding anymore he was eating after 5 days so eggs are gone. Loving the look of a full tank with 8 anthias and 5 chromis now. Here is a some pics to show the size of my cowrie snail. 67mm measuring across the length of the bottom.
  11. Don't put any tangs with malawis. For one thing, Pembas are vegetarians and get bloat easily if feed on foods that are too fatty. Foods that you would usually feed a lot to malawi cichlids. Just stick with bright coloured male cichlids. Haps, peacocks, eyebiters, yellows, giraffes. Heaps to make a nice display tank. make sure your filtration can take it though.
  12. my first breeding with marine fish.
  13. Yes it is very heavy. When the tank is empty and on the stand it is almost impossible to move it.
  14. I have figured out what I am going to do. I will buy some temporary tanks to set up a week before I touch the tank. 1 - week 1, set up new tank or tanks in Nelson. Make sure I have plenty of spare water. + RODI water and salt if needed. 2 - week 2, take up base rock and rinsed sand in containers covered in drenched towels and newspaper to lessen the water I have to take from the main tank. 3 - week 3, take up the rest of the rock with corals and fish in poly boxes. (plenty of people to help tag and bag) 4 - week 4 or 5, movers will bring up the tank, stand and the rest of my house furniture. 5 - week 6, set up Display tank. 6 - week 7, transfer base rock and sand. 7 - week 8, transfer fish and corals. 8 - week 8-10, watch every fish very carefully for signs of stress or unhealthiness. My acclimation for fish, inverts and corals is always drip acclimation. (keeping water warm with warm bags of water). Fish 2-3 hours (4 hrs, depending on salinity of their water). Inverts 2-3 hours (including clams and starfish). Corals 1-2 hours. Anything I should write down or add in my process?
  15. Thanks guys. I think I am going to have to find something to set up temporarily in nelson a week before I go up there so I have something to put half my rock in and then the corals and fish will follow a week later. So if anyone knows of any biggish tanks or a few small 200-300ltr tanks that I could buy or borrow for a while until I can get my display tank up and running, let me know or keep an eye out. Much appreciated.
  16. Cool, thanks redracer. I will be contact with you closer to the time. I think I am going to need a hand. Takes a long time by yourself.
  17. Can't really do more than one fish Peru bag unless I get some big bags. I think a heap of poly boxes are the way to go and my 1000ltr IBC to take water. I'll just chuck the base rock in there and try protect the corals as best I can. If I don't leave invers now then I never will.
  18. Haha I would fly a plane if I had one. With the amount of stuff I have I would have to do move than 10 trips to get all there with carry on poly boxes.
  19. You can dim each of the 3 channels on the k4 units. The point in the cloud over is just for looks and doesn't help your corals at all so what is the point. I always thought the lightning function would looks cool if synced with the wave makers like ecotech does with their products. And create swell movement etc.
  20. What would it cost to fly them up there? 200+ litres of water + rock weight would be expensive to fly up wouldn't it?
  21. I dont really believe in adding chems to my tank to remove things. I usually just add extra carbon to my filtration and do water changes. But I will look into it. The main thing I don't want to happen is lose any fish. I would rather the fish survive than if I lose the odd coral or two.
  22. I have just listed my house to sell. I will be moving from the bottom of the South Island (Invercargill) to the Top of the South Island (Nelson bays area) My tank is 2m x .6 x .6 (700 odd ltrs) + 1200 x 400 x 400 (100 odd ltrs) sump + heavy timber furniture stand and all equipment. Tank is full of rock, corals and fish. (those who have seen my tank thread will know what it looks like). 17 fish, 3 shrimp, starfish, snails, 60-70kgs of rock (dry), a heap of corals. DSB also. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to break it down and move it. I would think it would be easier to have something setup in Nelson a week before I move the stuff up there but I don't have anything to use for this or even a place to move to just yet. And I don't know how much time I will have to move when my house sells. I could possibly start moving everything as soon as I have something sorted in Nelson as my partner will be going up in a few weeks to her new job and will hopefully have a rental house within the next month. Also I would need a lot of fresh salt water spare for any reason. and some way of keeping everything warm for the 14 or so hour drive. I would need some sort of big container to store everything in for the trip up there? I only have 2 medium poly boxes. I don't know of anyone down here with marine tank experience to help out. Anyone who has moved this volume of water / size tank before, how did you do it? Keeping in mind this has to be moved quite a distance. What would be the best plan of attack? i.e. order of process. Anyone able to offer some help? What other things do I need to think about?
  23. Thank LA. I will do that tomorrow. A few new photos and fish. Female Bangaii Male Bangaii New Mimic tang. Looking like a lemon peel angel in it's juvenile colours. (it was also with a lemon peel in its previous tank). Coral beauty.
  24. mine also like white worms. I have gotten them to eat flake a few times but usually they will eat it and spit it out again.
  25. They are KEY led light units K4 series. There is a local NZer that sells them or you can search online for them. the size I have were around $700NZD each. Just feeding the Bangaiis frozen foods as they won't except flakes or pellets just yet. But getting there slowly.
