    My Nano

would cutting some grooves or drilling some holes for a vent be ok then just silicone the fans on on the inside
  2. i had mine on a 5ft african tank it was 4500lph and i had it at one end about 20cm below the surface of the water pointed upwards on a 45deg angle to agitate the water surface for this purpose i wish i had of gone higher in flow rate the fish arent worried about it at all and i wont move the substrate if its not pointed at it

put a few 12v computer fans in the hood get at least 80mm ones if you can fit them as they are quieter than 45mm ones
  4. its an internal filter will block up pretty fast especially if you used the foam that comes with it id just let it run at full blast as it will have in a few days as it gets gunked up
  5. some people like the look of bubble walls but a wave pump will be better for water circulation and surface agitation just aim it up at the surface from below and dont be afraid to buy the biggest one you can afford even its its rated at 15000lph as its spread out and gentle(not like a powerhead) a 3000lph wave pump would barely make a ripple on a 5ft tank. if you are getting one i reccomend the suns sun brand as they are quite good quality and cheap
  6. get a big airpump and use multiple lines and taps to control the flow of air to each tank rather than having 1 air pump per tank
  7. i have a 20cm long salvini in my african (not african i know) he has large teeth that can be seen easily im always worried about getting a bite from him
  8. bear in mind the fish can grow over 2foot long s(although will take a long time so ait needs to be able to turn around easy enough

  11. thanks for doing this as its the only way we were ever gonna know for sure a well educated guess sometimes dosent cut it
  12. 1 pump could be from $80-400 depends what quality size you need, flow pumps from $40 upwards, skimmers for a tank that size will cost at least $300 all the way up to 1K depending on brand /quality. a marine light could be anything form $250 if you really good at diy to well over 1k being that your tank is 50cm high you will need MH probably at least 2X250W plus supplementary lighting. 2 a sump is best as it hides all your equipment some of which may be large and bulky it also enables you to use the return pump as part of the circulation in your display tank. 3 350l is a really good size tank as the larger the volume the more stable the water parameters so you shouldnt have too much trouble but take your time with planning and research also patience with cycling will go a long way to having a stable tank personally i haven't found having a marine tank much worse than having african cichlids maintenance wise, but it really depends on how you intend to run the tank you can end up making heaps of maintenance with heaps of equipment and dosing regimes if you want to or you can keep it simple both have their advantages and disadvantages 4 when you need equipment ask in the private trade and exchange some1 may have something you need otherwise trademe , other options for getting cheaper equipment are online overseas and NZ sites but be aware of bad quality equipment theres a lot online thats not even worth looking at, perhaps if you think something within your price range post a thread on here asking opinions about it

  16. do you have any other species of fish in the tank i was thinking perhaps a syno catfish?
  17. i dont know if any brand is better than another , but make sure you buy one suited to the size of your tank and glass thickness as they are annoying when the magnet isnt strong enough
  18. they will eventually rule the top of the tank they are nice fish one of the nicest gouramis availible
  19. i like these ones the have wide spacing so can fit multiple timers or plugs with transformers built in they are cheaper at bunnings than dick smith though
  20. they can put chlorine in without letting us know if there is contamination they arent going to tell 30 odd thousand people before they put chlorine in
