    Breeding fighters

Most people seperate when they start to show signs of aggression towards each other, which is usually around the 2-3 month period, however seperating before this happens increases the growth rate drastically. Also when they are still young and being brought up, the bigger fry should be taken out and put into a seperate tank together giving the smaller ones time to catch up a bit.

    Breeding fighters

Would be best to breed with another crowntail female. However I have yet to see these in pet stores and as far as I know are currently only available through breeders. They start developing decent fins between 3-6 months old, the speed they grow at depends on when the breeder decides to separate them into individual compartments and the food, care etc given to them. Be warned that you will need to feed fry 2-3 times per day religiously, and be ready to house up to a couple hundred fry on a good spawn. For more info you'd be better off doing some research through google as they can be time consuming and will take up a decent amount of space. 3. I highly suggest downloading the new Firefox 3 beta. It's amazing. Faster than Firefox 2 and uses less memory as well. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

    hi

Kind of, it's not really called a 'double crown' however. They're known as 'Double Ray' and 'Triple Ray' Crowntails. Single Ray looks like this: While a Double Ray is this: Then you can get crazy ones like this... It basically relates to the amount of rays shooting off in the caudal tail.

    hi

Price tends to vary with how they look. For a good quality crowntail maybe between $40-60. Good quality halfmoon around $50-70 It all depends on the seller, and what they look like. There are platinum white halfmoons around. Keep an eye on Trademe, Ron lists his there every now and again. Don't think there are any pure black melano's. I think adodge has some black and blue crowntails though... currently one on TM

    hi

That's my opinion anyway, others may beg to differ. I highly suggest looking at http://bettysplendens.com/articles/home.imp too. It's one of my favourite when it comes to betta information.
  9. Thought I could see some crowning going on too. What tail types are the parents?
  10. Look to be developing some nice yellow in their fins. Can't wait to see what they grow up to be
  11. Looks like riccia to me, hard to tell with the size of the pic though :-?
  12. Hi Ron. I'll be keeping them pure strain as well, no doubt about that! I'm interested in producing some halfsuns however (180 degree caudal with crowning). And these usually take several generations to achieve anyway. More or less it'll just be a little experiment for myself rather, and not something I'd be selling straight away.
  13. It's hard to tell from the pics and the vid... but he could have a slight hint of double tail geno in him going off the first pic and a few shots in the video. It's really hard to tell though as it could just be the angle or the shape of his tail.... Any double tail owners opinions?
  14. He looks better in reality
  15. She'll do that occasionally, but by the look of the size of here, she's got plenty more. Mine started doing that and released a good 50 or so by herself, then the following day she spawned a good 300+ eggs. The male usually can tell which eggs are infertile/rotton and will eat them. My little guy seems to have excellent judgement at that, thankfully Hopefully yours does too
  16. The spawning process isn't always as perfect as the websites describe. With one of my last spawns, the couple just couldn't quite get the wrap right for a few hours, then eventually when they did wrap properly, there were no eggs. In fact, there were no eggs for about 3 hours of wrapping, then finally.... she started releasing and all went perfectly well. With a spawn I tried a few days ago, she only wrapped a couple times, and not a single egg. Then she decided to release them without wrapping and got hungry so ate them  From what you've described, everything seems completely fine. Lots of going back and forth is normal, and don't expect eggs within the first wrap. Good things take time
  17. Awesome Except what/who are the parents?

    Guppykillies

Was just the one at the mall up here in Paraparaumu. Usually has nothing even worth looking at, but I always pop in just incase they do get something exciting in on the rare occasion.

    Guppykillies

Was in lfs today, and took a look at the guppies. To my surprise, there randomly happens to be 2 killies in there, at least I'm pretty darn sure they were from what I know about them. They were being sold, and advertised as Guppies however. Unfortunately I'm not that big of a know-it-all on killies, and only really know what males look like. From what I can tell, these are females however I'm not sure what kind. I've tried looking for females online but can't seem to find many pics, only males came up. From what I can tell though, it had a similar body shape to a Striatum, except not much body colour, and a light yellow rinse through the fins. Just curious for an ID on the little bandits if anybody can help 8)
  20. Haha. And thanks except I'm not really new... partner just decided to steal my account so had to create my own one
