    What on Earth?

    Could be dropsy.. http://www.fishdeals.com/fish_diseases/dropsy/
  2. IME in breeding fighters, the bossy one always got the job done a lot easier and faster than the passive one. Was no mucking around. Just did the deed and that was it 8)
  3. If I can actually get them to make babies then sure I'll be selling them once grown  Thanks for that Cesarz, although I'm finding it hard to know what this 'tube' looks like. Is it very distinctive or is it something I have to look hard to find? Never bred livebearers so I'm no guru just yet
  4. I'm hoping to breed a Hi-fin Lyretail swordtail male x Lyretail female however I remember reading somewhere, at some point in time that Hi-fins have trouble breeding as the anal fin is too large. Was curious as to what others have experienced or know about them. Pics of the culprits in questions! Male: Female:
  5. DP = Doubletail Plakat? I've always known the abbreviation as DTPK. Anyway, obviously you can't predict 100% what the outcome is and I've never worked with DT unfortunately. However, from what I understand it isn't a dominant gene. It's a genotype that unless crossed with pure DTxDT you will get a random amount of DT through several generations. As CT is a dominant gene however, there will obviously be some crowning in most of the fry. So, as a 'off the top of my head' prediction... I'd say you'd end up with the below mixture of fry. - Long, single finned with crowning (with PK and DT geno) - Long, finned double tail with crowning - Short, single finned with crowning (DT gene) - Short, finned, double tailed with crowning Presuming the mother is 100% CT and not a cross with something else, the offspring in my opinion would be classed as 50% CT and the other half would be a mixture depending on what fin type the fish actually was. One thing to remember is that Plakat isn't a tail 'type' as such eg. CT, HM, VT. Its just a word used for short finned fighters and can still show other genes just on a different sized fin. Hope this makes a little sense It's hard putting it in writing. And please, anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
  6. Amazing aquascaping Waterfaller! And your betta has the most amazing colors also! I really do wish we could get Hemianthus callitrichoides here. Also what is the plant growing on the wood in the second nano?
  7. 1337 = L33T = LEET = ELITE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet <- if you're really interested in learning more but I highly discourage it
  8. Do you have any double tail adodge? Would love some pure black ones also

    Fry colouring

If only mixing fighters was like mixing paint lol. If you did happen to get a purple one, I would probably drool a lot 8)

    Fry colouring

They'll slowly colour up in the next couple weeks probably. Are the bodies light or dark coloured? The dark colour on the anal fin are on a few of mine at the moment too. Still waiting to see what they grow into as I'm hoping for a black butterfly 8)

    Wild Plants

I just found some in a small stream about 5 mins from my house. It's an NZ native so can be found in streams and lakes all over the place, just have to hunt around a bit first.

    Wild Plants

Right, errr... plants, aquatic plants, glosso, fish. Still on topic... right? Hard to explain exactly... but wanting a full sleeve on my arm, slowly worked on of course. Going to be a dark, gloomy looking tree with the base/roots of it starting on my hand and wrapping around my fingers, the main trunk of the tree being on the arm, then it branching out at the top where my shoulder is. As the years go by I'll slowly add bits and pieces into the tree that play a significant role in my life at the time. Kind of going to be my tree of life as nerdy as that sounds lol  Partner is wanting this, however it's a bad picture and the only one I could find on the net...

    Wild Plants

Oh right I just remember seeing in some old post somewhere that you said you worked at Underground Arts. Me and the partner were wanting some work done so just thought I'd enquire  lol
  14. Leaving it there full time will probably stress him out a bit. However putting it there for a little bit each day or even a few times a week will help strengthen his fins, especially caudal and should prevent it from going droopy. What type of fighter did you have?

    Wild Plants

Will just have to make sure the other half remembers to actually bring it out this weekend. Always asking her too but constantly forgets  Also Mystic.. are you a tattooist??

If only I had a camera Or maybe a full time job to buy one 8)

    Wild Plants

Decided to try the bleach solution first, however... there were way more creepy crawlies than I thought. Were a few centipede and shrimp looking things that weren't actually shrimp and just seemed like too much hassle. So.. since it was just 3 giant clumps decided to take a couple of the healthiest looking parts and just use them. So now I'm down to 3 small pieces from 3 huge clumps. Got Co2, PMDD and high lighting so hopefully something will come from it! Can't complain if it doesn't though since I got it for free
  18. I'm a little confused on this one... Yesterday I decided to go hunting for some 'wild' glosso and ended up with half a shopping bag full Anyway, I'm not too sure what to do about pests/unwanted organisms that are attached to it. I rinsed it several times and let it soak overnight with some salt added but I can still see the tiny worm things wriggling around. Any solutions? :-?
  19. Very nice. They're both cambodian however, so that'll be the dominant gene IME. Do you have pics of the male too? Oh, and cambodian's are near impossible to see bars on their body like other fighters. So without sounding too mean ... you're probably just seeing things lol. You should be able to tell if they're stressed from their behavior.
  20. Ha, oops. Yeah the one at wetpets. Completely forgot to say what place it was at. I'd say it would be glosso going by what she's told me
  21. Oh is that all  She made it out like it was some new, rare plant. Guess I'll have to get her some then.
  22. Bit of an odd question... Anybody aware of what the plants are in the 'managers' tank that are on the ground (small .5cm broadsword carpet like thing) and the other odd plant growing on the wood in there? These are the best descriptions I can get unfortunately lol. Partner is curious and would love to know what it is/get hold of some. Of course, she forgot to ask at the time...
  23. Wow you're going to have a heck of a lot of fighters for your first time! Hope you got the space for them all. Best of luck though! I'd recommend giving your current lot a mix of microworms and baby brine shrimp. The shrimp have a high protein % and have more nutrition in them than worms. As Fish Fingers said, decap brine shrimp is probably best, nice and easy to work with and no mess. Also, in response to your other post, as adodge said, there are a lot of factors that play a part into the growth rate. I have one fry who's massive compared to the rest, and already showing a nice double ray structure in the tail, while I have others who still only look 4 weeks old (This batch are around 9 weeks now) and seem to be struggling. Not sure if you've seen this chart before, but this is what a good growth rate of a betta is normally like. Could give you an idea at least.... http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/bettagrowth.html
  24. Nice work adodge :bounce: The 8 weeks are looking a great size for there age! I have some around the same age but are a bit behind as I haven't had the space for another grow out tank I'm sure they'll catch up in time.
  25. Obviously Flourish excel is a damn good plant food, however I was curious as to what other people experienced with other nutrient foods such as Florapride and Leaf Zone. The main thing pushing me away from Flourish is the cost. I can get 250ml of Florapride for cheaper than 100ml of Flourish. Just wanting others input and experiences...
