I have heard of someones mouse itching and it turned out to be the bedding. Can't remember the details of what it was though.Whether it was what was in the nest or the bottom of the cage so you could try changing that.

Apparently it can be very difficult to raise baby rabbits. They often die unexpectedly. Just when you think they are doing ok. They need bacteria in their gut to digest their food - they get that from their mum. The thing to do is to go find some fresh rabbit poo and put a pellet in their milk/water. Do that regularly. We had 5 wild rabbits that survived but I think they were bigger than yours. The other tiny ones ( eyes shut) we have had died. One vet suggested melted vanilla icecream to feed young ones. We fed them all sorts of grass/weeds. They eat and poop heaps. They loved dandylion, clover(esp the flower) and a broadleafed weed I cant remember the name of. Also grass seed heads. They became tame really quickly- they are sooooo cute. I will see if I have saved any articles on raising them Good Luck.

Advice wanted on mystery acidic water in my tank
oneeyedfrog replied to DeeTee's topic in Freshwater
Hi, I had a similar problem but with the ph going up. I finally tracked it down to the bio noodles in the canister filter. I filled two bowls with water from the tap put noodles in one , left overnight and tested both in the morning. So I would test all the media in the filter Hope you find the answer soon. -
We live on an isthmus on the Whangaruru Harbour . On the flat it is just above sea level and if there was a wave it would come from both sides. Luckily we live up on the hill so heaps of people and their animals were up at ours all morning. We all went up to the top of the pa to watch. In the end a few were disappointed that nothing actually happened. LOL. I guess its a good civil defence practice . We have a lot of older people in our community who had to be notified and moved. If something had happened loads of people would have been affected. It's a bit scary to think that we are at the mercy of events like this.

The curved impeller I got sent from HFF cost $21 I think plus postage.

I built something similar for my 100l tank. Set it up inside the hood. Works fine. Tanks tests are all good. I used one of those white plastic containers that you hang inside the laundry cupboard door ($6). Put an inlet pipe in at the top on one side . Made it slightly raised on that side and put an outlet pipe on the bottom at the other end. Put a spray bar on the inlet ( poked some holes in a bit of pipe I had )I started with just a hole for the outlet but it was too noisy so put on an elbow and short pipe so the return was just below the water level. filled it with noodles and put a couple of black filter pads on the top. It's been running over 6 months and I have rinsed the top pad once not too long ago. Coz it's sitting right above the water doesn't matter if its not totally watertight. I put an overflow hole in the side just incase. Had to put a little bit of plastic grill stuff by the end of the outlet to stop the noodles getting sucked into the outlet pipe. Its very quiet. Have heard people have used lengths of spouting too.

I have the guppies separated at the moment. May just put in males or females or was hoping that when they do breed the fry will get eaten. Sounds mean - the 1st few lots you try to save then its like - huum if I don't look maybe they'll disapear!
-
oh wow thought I might have to go bigger than that. Is that with the neons and guppies in there too?

Hi, I have decided to get a big tank/s instead of keep getting more and more smaller tanks. So thought if we decide which fish we want then work out what we need to house them all. Here's the list : 6 corys 2 bristlenoses 10 glowlights 6 Diamond tetras 10 Head and tail light tetras 10 Black Neons 6 Phantom tetras 2 Honey Gourami 2 Bolivan Rams Perhaps a whiptail or two? We have around 20 guppies and 20 neons in other tanks. How would you arrange these fish? I would like to have a large planted tank or two. What could I keep together and what size tanks should I be thinking of? We have enough room for big tanks. Thanks

Ha beat me to it Smidey.. I've got one you can borrow too

Hi, I got one with curved blades for my 404 from HFF a few weeks ago.

Hi, I have just set up a 150l tank 115cm long. At the moment it has 6 three lined corys. I will get a bristlenose in a couple of weeks. I have been looking at Diamond tetras and wondered if they would be ok in my tank. Has anyone had experience with them? Reading up on them they seem to not be agressive but there is conflicting advice as to how many - 3 -6 as minimum . Also would they be ok with a couple of male guppies or would they fin nip each other?
-
Hi Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost a three lined cory a couple of weeks ago. Same thing. Fine one day and dead in the morning. Tested water and all ok. He was the one one of his kind in the tank( waiting for more) so maybe stress. I really hate not knowing why they died. It's hard to prevent further deaths if you cant find the cause. Heres hoping it's a one off and your other one is ok. I would get him some mates as they prefer to be in a group . 6 is good .

Thanks for the replies . I thought its better to put more on . So found myself some old lovures (sp?) and thanks to the tips on here , cut the glass without cutting myself. Yay! Even managed to cut it kinda where I wanted too!

Hi, I just got a 2nd hand tank that is 115cm x 38 x 38. It has bracing across the top on each end but nothing in the middle. It this ok or does it need a cross brace across the middle? Its 6mm glass. Thanks

Treatment for Turtle damaged by dog - graphic pic
oneeyedfrog replied to livingart's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
I agree about the bacteria in the salvia. Antibiotics would be the go for dog bites. Used to be a vets nurse and infection was nearly always a complication .Also seen a few guys end up in hospital for days after a dog bite. We used to put in a drain or keep the wound open for a few days to let it heal from the inside out and stop it abcessing. Not sure how you could do that with a turtle shell in the way though. Perhaps sticking gauze swabs into the wounds to prevent closing. Good luck - hope it makes it. -
Thats' interesting to know. I wonder if there is something in my water ( it's bore water) that its reacting with.

I was reading up on algae scrubbers after reading the following link posted on this forum. http://www.aquariumslife.com/saltwater- ... er-screen/ and they seemed to agree with you that there is no point to collecting the poo/ uneaten food and storing it within the tank system. Quite interesting. heres another site http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/index.php

I put six bio noodles in a breakfast bowl of water yesterday and this morning the ph was 8.2. The ph in the control bowl was 7.4 . Bik Bok I thought that about soaking them for a while too but I wonder what they are made of and what nasties they could be leaching out.
-
Well this is weird I tried putting some in vinegar the other day and no fizzing. I am testing again by putting a few in a bowl with some water and a couple of hours later the ph is up from the control bowl. Will check it again in the morning.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =236268710 Bik Bok stick them in a bucket of water overnight and check the PH in the morning. I would be interested to see if it's happening with yours too.
