  3. Thanks Naz_Nomad Thats a great amount of help there. It gets very little sun and only in the morning which I guess would affect it somewhat. It is planted. I am using a bottle of Sera's verson of Flourish Excell atm, I have two bottles of Florish Excell I'm going to start using when I've used up the Sera bottle. Should I cut back on the lights??
  4. Hey everyone! Just a few questions if you could help out. My tanks algae growth is more than my snails, shrimps and hillstream loaches can keep up with at the moment. It grows on the rocks mainly, a Small amount on the glass, but not a lot really. I can't use, say, algaefix as it will kill my shrimps. Is there any other way of getting the algae down a bit more? The lights are on timers to come on at 7am and off at 10pm. Is this too long of a period? It doesn't get much sunlight so just presume this is normal. Also, the tanks is about 400L, unheated. After a water change the pH level was at 6.5 is this normal? Cheers :bounce:
  5. wow really?? and people wonder why they're not around anymore.....

    Butterfly Rams

I see them in most pet stores. Was considering adding some but I prefer Leopard danios.
  8. Ohhh that is interesting. Thanks for that too
  9. Ant - I have no problems with sunlight or algae as the sun doesn't come round that part of the house. Stella - I did wonder about that, though the plants and rocks at the back of the tank is well hidden and the shrimps usually all hang out there during the day. Though I will consider that when attempting to keep another cray
  10. well maybe thats what did kill him. chlorine remover as I use that. I dont understand how it can kill a koura but not shrimp... because they're similiar wouldnt they both be affected ??
  11. ohhh sorry guys forgot to write, couldnt get any pics of the shrimp and that crayfish died so I gave up keeping them atm!
  12. Hey! I'm kinda almost but not really from Wangas! lol

  14. Ohk guys. Sorry for the bad shots. I'm not too great with a camera. FYI the tanks full to the top now... dunno why it wasn't that day! The pics were taken a few weeks back. I just had time today to play around and hopefully get them posted on here. Tha tank contains; 3 Leopard Danio, 8 WCMM, 1 paradise fish, 8 Goldfish, 3 hillstream loaches, 30 Freshwater shrimp and about 16-ish snails - 3 different varieties. YAY comments and ideas/suggestions welcome!!!

    New tank /fish

    Yep Gannet, it's black widow.
  16. FYI Minnows are a schooling fish so you need to get more of them to be happy. Minimum of 6. I keep minnows, danios, hillstream loaches, paradise fish and freshwater shrimp with my Goldfish in an unheated tank. They get monitored closely though as I do not recommend this combination if you don't know what your doing. I also monitor them as most of these species don't like cooler temps.

    Paradise Fish

So breeding them is easy but keepng them alive is the hard part lol Got ya! Thanks for that! I'll keep that in mind if I decide to try breeding them! :bounce:

    Paradise Fish

are the difficult to breed carla? and do they breed in unheated aquariums?

    Paradise Fish

I brought mine when he was in a tank with goldfish... He was stalking through the plants and not bothered by the other fish at all so I picked him based on that. Does the same here... occasionally stalks (and when you get a paradise fish you'll see what i mean by stalking) the freshwater shrimp but they're bigger than him and faster than him. When you get one though be sure to feed him water boatmen because its hilarious watching them stalking and trying to catch them!

    Blue Rams

I showed my flatmate your pics and then we went around all the fish shops, found some and now he's going to buy a tank just to keep some! haha. He also wants to know if they can be kept with Siamese fighters?

    Paradise Fish

I don't know if you want to risk it. Have you looked at other species of labyrinth fish ?? There are a lot that are more placid and may be more suited if you have concerns.
  24. I've seen them in books etc I don't think you can get them here. NZ has a native freshwater crab though I doubt it can live in higher temps and good luck finding one lol

    Paradise Fish

What is in your community tank? They are aggressive towards their own species and anything that looks like their own species. Can't be kept with any other Labyrinth fish. Females can be kept with males without problem but two males will fight. CAN be aggressive towards other fish too though I disagree to a certain extent, But depends on the fish I suppose as mine is not aggressive at all. Mine lives with Goldfish, Danios, White clouds, Hillstream Loaches and Freshwater shrimps without any hassle. Hope this helps.
