  1. Wonder if it might not be worth talking to someone who does the ordering for a local garden center? I'd assume what would be needed for aquatic plants would be similar for land plants. Just a thought anyway.

    Hiya

Don't most? I mean, we all put them on a pedestal(stand).

    salt in tank

The only reason they could have red gills from changing the water too much is possibly because of chlorine in the water and not using a conditioner. I don't think guppies care much if there's salt in the tank or not, a little bit might help though. I think it's mollies? that really like the salt.
  4. Looks good. Pretty solid.
  5. Hmmm, I might have to do that a bit at a time. The only thing I can think of big enough to put the container in is the bathtub, and I think it's far too well insulated for that to work.
  6. I'm considering redoing my whiteworm culture that's in a 2'ish by 1'ish foam container. Basically just replacing all the dirt. Any suggestions on how to seperate the old dirt and the worms?

    Wow!

Hmmm, I might have to look into getting a fire eel. I've wanted an eel for ages, just never seriously looked at getting one.
  8. Judging from the link she gave she'd do a fishless cycle. Probably what I'd do if I had to cycle a new tank from scratch...But I've set up 4 tanks and only ever had to cycle the first.
  9. Nothing wrong with the way he's doing it, Sheila. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if just those 10 tiny fish in such a big tank would never got the ammonia high enough to be a problem even without any water changes.
  10. It's possible if the film is thick enough it might be interfering with aeration. Depends on who you ask about airstones and bubbles. A lot of people say that bubbles themselves make absolutely no difference it's just the disturbance they make at the surface that aerates the water. Personally, I think there must be at least a small amount of oxygen transfer through the surface of the bubble, even if it is significantly less than at the surface.
  11. I'd say the price is a big factor, not many people are willing to spend $150 on "Just a fish" I for one wouldn't spend that much on something as common as discus.

    Hello

Bumble bee gobies do NOT get pregnant. They're not livebearers, they're egg layers.
  13. Isn't there a Wellington club? I'd have thought they'd be part of the FNZAS too.

    catfish

I had a hex tank that was probably a similar size, the cories had no problem getting to the top.

    Hello

BTW, bumble bee gobies don't get pregnant.
  16. The size of the pic would have no effect on the website's servers, Unlike the avatars which are stored on the site's servers, the only thing the site deals with is the address. In this instance all the load for that picture is coming from Paradise's server because I put it on MY webspace for Sheila. That picture is only 60K which would take something like 10 seconds to download on dialup. And I'm not going to spend an extra minute or two resizing it so you can save a second because you don't have to move your mouse down and drag the slider over to see the right 1/5 of the picture.

    Discus Fish Price

$50 if you find someone that really wants one?
  18. Here you go. Managed to get the pic and put it up on my webspace for you.

    sad discus

Awwww. Sorry. (Hey, excuse to buy more fish!)
  20. In that case, throw a heater in the 4 foot tank and crank the temperature up over a few days. Everyone in it will be much happier. Unless you have a reason for wanting it cold water?
  21. Judging by your tagline, only the paradise fish aren't warm water and I'm not sure about the axolotyls and mussels. You wouldn't have the axolotyl in the same tank as the fish, would you? So, I don't know if they're all in the same tanks or what. But all the fish would probably be happier with a temp more like 20, the paradise fish should be ok in that too though I don't know much about them and can't say about the axolotyl or mussel though.

    Inserting pictures

Hit the img button just below the subject box, that will pop up the first part of the code to put a picture in, immediately after that put in the address(Type it or copy and paste it) including the HTTP:// part and then hit the img button again to close the code. If you want an example of what it should look like, move your mouse over the image button and immediately under the font color boxes an example like "Insert image: {img}http://image_url{/img} (alt+p)" pops up. If you don't have the picture on the internet somewhere, you need it to be.

    RF U/G Filters

I've thought about setting one up. Only bad thing I can think of is that you get less aeration. Get great amount of biofiltration without getting heaps of crap sucked into the UGF and getting stuck.
  24. Gotta give hannibal credit for the most disturbing scene in a movie ever. Making a guy eat his own brain...*Shudder*
