  1. The count is up to 125 fry. Just counting them as I move them to new tanks. I moved 25 to a small planted tank in the bathroom. This one.... And they exploded! In a week they've grown to about twice the length of the rest of the fry. They're up around an 3/4-1" I think now. So that made me decide to hurry up and set up one of the other tanks in my sleepout, a 200ish liter corner tank with some plants and I've put another 100 fry into that tank. Seems maybe they were too crowded in the original tank. All the water parameters were fine so I'm guessing they were growing slower due to more competition for food? Anyway, it looks like there are at least as many left in the original tank as I moved to the new one. So I think there are at least another 100 uncounted.
  2. The killifish club isn't really a species specific. More genus or family specific. Like a cichlid specific club would be... Ok, I'm being nitpicky.
  3. uhhh...No, gro lux lights don't contain any vitamins. The spectrum is just tuned so they put out more light in the frequencies that plants use.

    I want

Looks like they grow to about 55cm. I'd say you'd want a tank around 300-400L as an absolute minimum.
  5. They may have adapted to the lower PH and will probably do just fine in it. But they will be better at the higher PH. Like a human can survive just fine wandering outside naked in 10-15°C weather. But you'll be a lot happier and more probably healthier around 25°C (And clothed  )

    Hi All

Long and wide, definitely best. Anything over 2' deep is too deep, imo. Unless it's big enough to swim in... That's why I think 4'X2'X2' is a great size tank. Right at the limit of depth, but it's only 4' wide so it doesn't take up as much wall space but still has a good size footprint.
  7. No, the heaters are fully submersible. That line is actually the MINIMUM submersion usually. So you shouldn't have any more of it OUT of the water than that.

    I want

How big do you want the fish to be? Oh, 30CM or over. Hmmm, Something like a jaguar, a midas, oscars aren't particularly aggressive usually. I think I'd go for the Jaguar, they're relatively uncommon so that's a bonus. Pretty sure they get over 30cm.
  9. wait, you've got all those fish in a 200 liter? They'll barely be able to move in about 6 months!
  10. Hmmm, I've only seen an albino bristlenose once. I think, and it was somewhere around $150nz

They're pearl gouramis, just over a month old.
  12. Yes, as a matter of fact I have dropped my fish into buckets of tap water and they lived quite happily. My tap water is rain water.

    Rata logs

I think I'd have just flipped it over and boiled the other end... (Of course, I have no idea what it's shapedlike, maybe it wouldn't have fit)
  14. The only time that would upset the chemistry of the tank significantly is if your tank conditions were really bad to begin with or you normally only make tiny changes so the chemisty drifts quite a bit from the water change water. Making 50% water changes the water is almost the same going in as is in the tank. Only just a bit cleaner.
  15. I consider 20%/week to be an absolute minimum no matter how good your filtration is. Unless you've got a heavily planted tank. I do 50%/week on all my tanks. Just mean to say most of the advice you're going to get is heavily influenced by opinions and experiences, almost none is due to scientific study and experimentation.

Actually, today is their 1 month birthday.
  17. Errr...No real way to know for sure. As long as they're ID'd right then they should grow up to be nice looking fish assuming they're in a good tank, well fed and not poorly bred. You want to know more definitely than that...I guess you'll have to visit your local church...
  18. Give the kissing gourami 6 months to put some size on and he'll eat the siamese fighter, solve the problem.
  19. I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you...

    FULL FRONTAL

Nah, that's not the 3 white rocks sitting in the sand look. That's the "Construction in progress look" easily confused, though.

Here are the 3 that came out best. Very uncooperative little brats. Should be a reasonable size for us poor people on dialup. This one is slightly tweaked because it was really badly washed out.
