    Reefs Reef Tank

Aesthetically I think, for the same total wattage, an extra 250 watt DE would look nicer...But more expensive.
  2. You'll likely have an easier time talking the fish into filleting and frying themselves up for you than rehoming them...

    Ghost Shrimp

If I could get half that for them, I'd be headed out to Pukerua bay right now. Could probably pay off my house in a couple solid days work...
  4. Sometimes though, there isn't really a cause. I had a tank that was overrun with cyano. Did huge water changes, everything I could think of and it seemed to make no difference. One dose with erythromycin and it never came back.
  5. Wait, didn't you get something like 4 moorish idols a year or two ago? What happened to them?
  6. They're at Bunnings. 750 watt peak, 550 sustained. It's just a little 2 stroke, wouldn't be enough for heaters or lights, but for circulation and airation it should be heaps.
  7. Hmmm, That'd be a huge one if it could run that much for a couple hours...I just bought a generator instead. $150 at bunnings, should keep all my tanks alive, just need need some more extension cords, a big petrol container and some 2 stroke oil still...

    Puffer fish

What kind of puffer is it? There are somewhere around 42,482,2934.3 different species in the world. And about a dozen that show up in NZ. He's doing great, Plecs. You should come visit him sometime. No nipping that I'm sure of and he's in a community tank. Maybe nipping some of the guppies tails, but I've had a total of 3(*Sniff* Poor H&R Puffersnstuff) and none of them have done a noticable amount of nipping.

    Flat worms.

I think the little orange thing this tubeworm has grabbed is a flatworm. Good wormy! Anyone know what these particular types of tube worms are called?
  10. They're not a problem. I forget the name of them. But some fish will eat them, otherwise they just live on the top of the water and keep to themselves.
  11. I wonder what he actually bought? I managed to get 2 Laguna Powerjet 5000s for $180. That's about 5-6 times the flow of a 1060. Of course, one of them was replaced because it would stop running for no reason, but that was replaced with one that runs perfectly AND I got to keep the old one.

    Fluval 304

I don't know why the put that plunger thing on it. It never does any good.
  13. I think an economist would say that an auction defines the fair price of the item. If someone is willing and able to pay it, then that's the value of the item. In this case, it's short circuited by an idiot.
  14. $1825 per year. $18,000 per decade. $128,000 over the average person's lifetime...
  15. You wouldn't be willing to part with a baby fungia or two, would you?
  16. It means you need to buy some black market E off your friendly local dealer... (E=Erythromycin Works great)
  17. There are 400W DE's, seem to be fairly new. I think those would be the ultimate light source.
  18. It's not? I have 6 metal halide bulbs within about 10 feet of me, replacement for those alone would be $800! *Kicks marine tank* QUIT MAKING ME SPEND MONEY ON YOU!!!
  19. Yeah, that $160 would be better spent on paying for the electricity your tank would use for a month or maybe two.

    Crayfish

My understanding was that mg/L was roughly equal to parts per MILLION. If it was PPT then his less than 23 mg/l of nitrates would be 23,000 PPM.
  21. It probably would be if it wasn't for the hippies.
  22. Nah, We're around what $.14nz per kilowatt hour? A lot of places in the US are paying $.20 US per kilowatt hour or more, I think. So, that's about $.28nz.
