    Evaporation

My tank evaporates about 5 liters a day with the covers off the tank. So my topoff is a 25 L jerry can and runs dry around 22ish. I burn through that in about 4 days. With them on I can squeeze about 6 days out. So call it 3ish with the lids on. That's over winter.

    pods and diatoms

Wow, I'd have thought they'd be far too big to make it through safely, reliably. Someone had a clown go through the return pump without a problem , though, don't remember where I read that.

    pods and diatoms

    Didn't I already say that?
  4. You can't get them as frozen food here, that I've seen. Most likely it was a hitch hiker along with some live food, have you collected anything from ponds or similar? They live in my pond along with my daphnia.

    starter pack

I didn't know you could get blue tangs that small! Minus the blue tang, though, it looks ok.

    pods and diatoms

Copepods will make it through without a problem. Bigger ones like amphipods would likely need a bigger pump, the spaces between the impeller will be too tight for an amphipod to be safe, I think. Something like a big spa pump impeller...
  8. I think they're actually Mystus gulio. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/bagridae/mystus/450_f.php Planet catfish says the true M gulio is from india and grows larger and is a greenish instead of greyish color. Mine, I don't get to see often, but seems to be a bit greenish. Anyway, they're schooling fish, so I wish I'd bought a couple of them.
  9. Except now you're going to have to buy it from Steve.

    pods and diatoms

I don't think I have any mysids. Quite a few amphipods though. Hard to say about the copepods.
  11. It's not really the mechanics of it that are a problem. It's just not usually easy or attractive to actually have it set up on your average tank in the living room...An in wall tank though could be done without it looking ugly.
  12. Another option is maybe someone might be willing to babysit your tank for a while in exchange for frags and some reasonable charge for electricity?

    Dacron Wool

I don't find filter wool to be expensive anyway from the LFS. What is it? $10 for a 2ftX3ft sheet? That lasts me a year easy.
  14. Tell us the truth, Pies! You leave your garage door open so they can eat any stray cats that come inside and get too close to your sump!

    Cysts on my clown

    Or how tough they are.
  16. Bonus effect is it cleans up any pipes and hoses in your system...

  18. That's why you make sure the little flap isn't stuck.
  19. Yup, still got it. Doesn't look quite as nice with the 14K bulbs as the 10K. The 14K don't have nearly as much red in them so the macroalgae looks more like a reddish brown instead of a bright red. Seems to grow pretty steadily, not very fast though.
  20. That's my strawberry Basslet. The cyano is basically gone, hasn't been more than a light haze in a few spots in over a year.
  21. Now that you mention it, I haven't actually cleaned the air hose and stuff on mine lately...I think I'll give that a try today...
  22. It's already killed. And if you want some of them you're gonna have to come and get them!
  23. Cool, I'll measure the hose later today to see exactly what size they are and send you a PM.
  24. The only thing I can think he might be referring to is the aquabee pumps, like my MCE600 has, have a little flap that flips one way or another depending on which direction the impeller decides to spin. That way it always pumps well. But if that gets jammed it won't flip so the pump won't pump as much. But...this is far from a secret, it says pretty much that in the manual... The manual fell open once and I saw it...I didn't RTFM, honest, that would be unmanly!
