    Dying brain?

It looks like the tissue is definitely dying. I'll try moving it to a different spot with a bit more current and a bit more shade, hopefully the rest of it will survive.

    Dying brain?

My brain, got it about 2 weeks ago. It hasn't opened up since I got it and I just noticed that the whole right half looks like it's bleaching and disintegrating. Any ideas what I can do to help it or is it a lost cause? It's, obviously, sitting on the sand on the bottom of the tank, it's in a pretty still area since that's what they're supposed to like, right? Is it laying wrong? Or anything else? Lighting is 2X250 DE 14K bulbs. Test results are Nitrates: 10 Calcium: 410 KH:9.2 PH: 8.1 Magnesium: 1300
  3. I don't think either of my plecos will fit into a 40mm pipe. Bristlenoses would though...
  4. It's not that big of a deal if you throw the salt in undissolved. Usually if a fish grabs it they'll just spit it out anyway. And eating a few grains of salt isn't going to hurt anything but tiny fish.
  5. If you could get me one for like $40, hehehe. Would be nice for kalk dosing. But I don't want to spend the money on it. Probably something like 200ml/hr would be heaps. Could probably get one for marinedepot for $150...Woah, dollar's gone way down since the last time I looked.
  6. I give it 5...No, 7 years before skimmers go out of fashion and people start going skimmerless.
  7. Damn, wish I could get up there wonder if I can talk them into selling me a peristaltic pump for $20? Doubt they have any though.
  8. Probably could do pretty well with a moderate size tank and a BIG refugium. Would have other advantages too having something like a 1000liter refugium in a big tub.
  9. They're probably just selling it at cost....Ok, let's not get into this again!

Why add the gelatine? I think the last thing I want to do is have it stay in a clump. For feeding corals wouldn't you want it more a bunch of small individual pieces?
  13. Used to be able to get those from dick smith. They're great, but not anymore. I've been looking for replacements for them since mine keep getting knocked into tanks or drowned...Been considering ordering a wireless one from the US.
  14. That's not a bad idea. Just a cheap DIY air driven counter current skimmer like 6 feet tall or something to skim out the long contact time proteins while the other one skims out the shorter contact time ones.
  15. hahaha, Maybe it didn't want to go?

    Proper drilling

No, the cannister doesn't have to pump against any pressure until it's pumping it above the tank's water level.
  17. Looks like a case of blue balls. Obviously misleading disease name because it causes rings.

    Homemade food

I haven't had any real trouble with any other homemade food. In fact, the shrimp grinds up VERY nicely while frozen. And it's a pain in the butt to get to the nearest fish store with mysis, they're an hour and a half round trip.
  20. I think the best is the one that gets you the longest contact time, but whether the flow rate is going to have much effect on it? I'm not sure how the water flows in that skimmer. If it's a counter current or what?

    Homemade food

I was thinking of making some food and puree-ing it to feed to my fungia and whatever else will eat it. Any suggestions on contents? I was thinking something like equal parts shrimp, whitebait and some kind of fish. How about surimi? I don't know exactly what's put into it other than crab? Oh, and now for the real reason for this post, so I can have somewhere to put this pic.
  22. Mantis shrimp don't mysteriously appear in pictures, that's ghosts that do! It's obviously a ghost of one of your shrimp that died during the move...
  23. haha, I kinda like that idea, superglue a piece of another snail's shell over it. Like an organ transplant or cadaver skin for burn victims.
  24. Huh...Seems most MH bulbs you'd find are around the right kelvin rating and it's not hugely important anyway, it's more down to personal preference.
  25. My tank it seems to be more of a total of everything in the tank, not just one device. And I only really notice it if I put my hand in the tank and have a scrape or something so the current gets a bit shorter path to a nerve, I guess.
