  1. Automatic or manual water change system? Continuous or not? How complicated/expensive do you want to go? Simplest is a hose trickleing into each tank and a small hole drilled in each for it to overflow out.
  2. You definitely need another heater or a biggerheater. Test your ammonia and nitrate levels, You seem to be fairly heavily stocked especially for such a new tank.
  3. That breed would be the Kentucky Plucker chickens.

    reflection in tank

Focus helps. And lots of light.
  5. Yep, returns to the sump via gravity. You do NOT want the return at the bottom, if it is then the first time you have a power outage your entire tank will drain into the sump killing everything in your tank, overflowing the sump, flooding your house, destroying your carpet, your PS3 and Xbox and making your house smell like monkey butt for a month. As long as you have a reasonable amount of circulation in the tank then you don't have to worry about where the outlet and intake are to make sure it circulates everything.

    Fungus in gravel?

I would suggest that the antlers are no longer a growing organism... Sounds like probably it's just the normal fluff you get growing on uneaten food.
  7. Wow, we're getting swarmed by sump threads lately. Have a look at the handful of other active sump threads, I think all your questions have been answered in each of them. Any size, bigger is better. You can make it out of whatever you want as long as it's water proof and strong enough. Cannister filters generally don't have very good flow when working against any kind of static head because in normal operation they don't have any head. A pond pump or similar will usually be better. Clean it whenever you can be bothered and whenever it gets dirty.
  8. I'm going to be a geek and tell you that you've used the wrong you're/your.
  9. So, it's basically the same as chat roulette? Is the penii factor higher or lower?
  10. Haha, $80 to replace a single tube with a T5 and save yourself $15/ year in electricity. That's a real cost effective winner there...
  11. I think they've been, "Going on sale soon..." For a couple years.
  12. Works fine for me. But it's 6am nz time now so may have been fixed overnight.
  13. Rocks aren't wildlife. Feel free to take them. I've gotten most of my more unusual colored rocks from wandering along rocky rivers.
  14. Move to the tropics. Otherwise there's nothing you can do that will be cheap...
  15. Just saw oreo pie crusts in the store here! (In Alaska) I don't care if they'd really fit with pumpkin pie, I'd use them anyway! Also, our local New World had a grand total of 2 types of canned chili last time I got some. I counted here..19 different varieties.
  16. A lot of reef tanks use similar systems. You can do some really cool stuff with them. Reefs have a lot more things to monitor and the system is a lot smaller percentage of the overall cost though. But even in FW it would be cool to have a computer running the lights and temp, you could even have it monitoring the PH and dose with an acidic or alkaline solution to maintain it in the set range. Just not really as cost effective.

    Fish Pond Help

Solar fountains are pretty useless for anything other than a little trickle of water. Also if you have an outside power outlet you'll likely spend more money on the extra cost of the solar stuff for far lower effectiveness than mains supplied pumps. Most will be about 5 watts or less. Over 12 hours/day you'll save the massive sum of $4. How long is the payback period going to be?

    Tank No3

Why get such a tiny tank? Get a good midsized one like a 440L. Then you're not limited to tetras and can get something interesting like SA cichlids.
  19. Huh...I've never seen one that didn't use sweetened condensed milk. Well, discounting the ones that say, "Pour can of pumpkin pie mix into premade pie crust then bake."
  20. Nope, the air you exhale is only fractionally different from the air you inhale. People's bodies aren't actually that highly effective at absorbing what it intakes. Same with food...The majority of what goes in comes back out, it's just a bid reorganised...
  21. Mine freeze well. I've been making 30ish small ones in little tart crusts and freezing the ones that survive long enough to make it to the freezer. They taste good frozen.
