hey snake kid can i make a suggestion? its not to be mean or nasty and i apologize if i sound like that but........ i suggest you keep to the one thread so that all the information is in the one place so you can read through it and know were to find the thread listen to what has been suggested i didn't and had a hard time getting my newts back but there doing fine now since following the advice no heaters and no lights unless very weak as they can dry? the newts out and because there nocturnal? not to mention the heat they will be fine and like mince described small tank a rock or wood to climb on and a few inches of water and some of those plants your terrarium would be better when they are bigger? some one correct me if i am wrong i think your going to enjoy working with the newts aye and another thing always wash your hands after wards if you absolutely must touch the newts for some reason

never had one she was put outside for say 30min or longer after every meal after waking up and before we closed the house up for the night and again every few hours she had a couple accidents but other wise she did well she is three this year so that was many years ago lol it was the same with the dog there about the same age but the cats older

rule of thumb is if its small enough and appeals to there senses they will eat it i think not 100% but the wingless fruit \lies are the better option as i think the meal woorms are a little fatty and are a treat?

hi snake kid i to am looking to buy some more but as it stands its not the best time to be looking for them as said some stores may have them but if your unsure about buying form a store i'm sure if you hang in there a bit longer they will pop up in the mean time just prepare yourself for the newts by reading everything you can asking every question you can also source and grow lots of foods for them while you wait I think around this time of year they should be breeding and then it takes another month or so for them to hatch some wait a few months before selling them so were looking at around December January before there on the market some one will correct me if i'm wrong and H.T.H and good luck with the hunt D.G

daphnia like the sunshine and warmth but not to warm so if you can find an old bath tub and put it in a warm place outside or a long tank rather than a deep tank that you can put by a window just remember to keep feeding them GREEN WATER and let them build up for a while before harvesting so i reckon get some now and set them up before the newts ect arrive then you should have plenty Worms such as white and earth worms are easy as well just add dirt a well aerated container and your away just remember to feed them and the newts ect love them if you practice and there small enough Fruit flies are also quite easy if you buy them from BIOSUPPLYERS they come in a container so you can either leave them in there or you can remove them to another container just make sure to feed them slices of fruit like apple ect and don't forget to remove the leftovers frozen blood worm is available at most pet stores or online and take a little practice for newts to get used to it just put a worm on the end of a tooth pick and wigggle it in front of the newts nose to stimulate movement you have to be patient and persistent with this one Aphids never tried them so i can't say water boat men never tried them either

ps i just don't get it aye if some one is willing to offer help to preserve the species why some wouldn't take the opportunity i understand the risk you take when lending and accepting for breeding purposes but i'm sure it will be even worse when you love an animal to death eventually it will die and then what wish you had another one? or have the whole species you love so much die with you

can i offer this solution if you have a female friend for mr hermans than private message reptor and sort out some sort of breeding program if you would like to help preserve the species but are worried about theft and a bit worried about publicly stating what you have which is fair enough I.M.H.O can i ask what the point of stealing the animals? is it possible to tag or track them?
