Staying in the same town sounds an easier option

I assume you are changing the water. I boiled mine about 6/8 times for a 10 min duration and changed the water each time. It never got completely clear but also it never discloured the tank water when i eventually put it in...good luck

Is it possible to use ordinary ceiling flourescent light fittings with the right bulbs fitted for aquariums or is there something different about the fittings sold in lfs?

I began by being very particular about getting the right temperature before adding the water but found that what Alanmin4304 said about 'feels about right' to be good enough. It also makes this much more enjoyable especially as the addiction sets in and more tanks are added to the mix

I have just finally managed to give away my 5 plattys. Four of them were fine, but the fifth one was a nightmare and chased any fish that was slower than it was. He loved chewing on the sides of the gouramis until finally i had to separate them into a tank with the algae eaters....that put an end to any chasing.... what i am learning is that the peacefullness or aggression of fish can often depend on the fish itself rather than the species.

I dont think i would put a discus with these sucker fish. I had mine in a tank with angels and dwarf gourami and they quickly lost interest in the algae and began trying to attach to the angels and gourami. Guess they preferred the slime to the algae. They can also be rather aggressive in the swimming and may freak the discus...

Sounds familiar .... kathiej. I am now down to 1 and 1/2 dwarf gourami after beginning with 8. It is rather daunting to see them get sick and die one after the other. My last female is in a salt quarantine tank as we speak...

are these sucker fish sold at animates as golden algae eaters? I have two and the same thing occurs with mine.... and they have grown...

Dixon....Redwoods didnt have any Bolivians the other day....but they did have apistos. Organism reckon they will be getting a shipment of Bolivians in later in the week.

I am stripping one of my tanks and replacing the gravel.... what is the best thickness for ease of cleaning, plant growth etc? Also if there are rocks and driftwood, do these sit on the gravel or on the glass with gravel placed around them. I normally partially bury them but this means that there is always gravel below them which never gets vac'd....

Good luck...getting these treatments. I have been trying for weeks and the whole tank bar two have died so far....

My two golden rams who share the tank chase them around all day and the three males have got a distinct pecking order... Might have to go check out redwood myself... :lol:

Yeah all three of mine have distinct red on their tails and the dorsal...started off faintly pink but has coloured up over the last couple of days...beautiful fish

No ...gave up on the place over Xmas cause they just didnt have anything there. Is that where you got yours? What i have read .... hey we all know how reliable this info is.... the first couple of 'rays' on the dorsal fin are serrated on the male... Certainly the three at organism are males and the ones at tower Junction all looked like males. Certainly the three i came home with are all males. However i had been assured that at least one of them was a female. :-? Not likely from their behaviour I suspect...
