    Frozen food

Put some guppies in your tanks I found that when the guppies were feeding this would stimulate the killies to do the same. The other thing I found worked well was to increase the current in the tank, the flake moves around a little more "live food" like, which stimulates the killies to eat it. Alternatively I can bring round some daphnia for you if you would like, I now feed my clowns and bi's once a week, and the tank looks like a snow dome for most of the week. Let us know
  3. The flourish excel is really cheap at that price, I tend to buy the two litre bottles, and they are generally another 25-30 dollars on that price.
  4. The ventral fins also tend to be more rounded in the females, They use this as a pouch where the eggs accumulate prior to being pasted on the tank. Looking from above the female should be more rounded overall, males tend to more of a v shape
  5. Does anyone culture these worms - If so what do you find works best for their culture.
  6. Welcome to the wonderful but somtimes frustrating world of fish keeping. I am sure we could all put our stories of frustrating fish times on the net. I don't think i will ever forget the day I increased the temp in one of my tanks. It had seperate heater and thermostat, and when I adjusted the thermostat it decided it was going to stick. I of course ended up spending the rest of the day out and about, and on return home had a lovely tank full of poached fish. Hope your bully gets better
  7. I'm with Rob on this one. In particular if they are horse shoe shaped holes. I'm sure I could even tell you which clown was responsible for each hole based on their mouth shape.

    Aquadom

I thought the aquarium at Paihia was good - I think from memory it is 15000 L - Someone correct me if i'm wrong They did the same thing in Paihia, I thought it may have something to do with the current in the tank
  9. I have used the white spot cure in tanks with bristlenose without any issue. As always after treating the tank monitor the fish and if they appear overly distressed then begin water changes, and possibly add carbon to the filter to remove the medication. In fact the only treatment so far that really distressed the bristlenose was fluke tabs - they went as stiff as a board but recovered after a decent water change.
  10. Thanks Barrie These eggs felt fertile - in that they didn't burst in my fingers as others have previously. Didn't manage to harvest many anyhow so will keep trying. I do have meth blue - fortunately I won't need to pick any up off you because every time I go to your house I come back with more Killies. I'm not complaining though, in fact starting to think about the australes and some annuals ..... - don't tell my wife
  11. How do people tend to deal with these. I removed a few from my tank last night, got up this morning and they had fungused. I would prefer to establish a number of these as opposed to taking fry out when visible in the main tank. Also have some 6 week old gardneri fry if people would like some.
  12. I recently watched my female guppy drop eggs, the other guppies enjoyed eating them !!! They were a yellow blob, probably 2mm diameter. I figured the male in with them was firing blanks so added another male who has done the business, now have fry instead of yellow blobs. It does raise the question why is it always the pretty males who fire blanks?
  13. Depends on what studies you read - the ride studies recommend 20mg BD for three days. This would suggest that olanzapine would not be effective. If you do want to try then may I recommend the wafers or injectable Olanzapine - they will dissolve quicker. Ideally best treatment get a bigger fish to boss him around
  14. "Bump" Hoping Barrie will see this and be able to comment on the silicone
  15. Hi Barrie, that would be great. Be in touch with you next week Cheers Matt
  16. Hi All, I am wanting to build a tank and was hoping to use the black sealant, trouble is the only brands I can find have the sealant in clear only, or if it is coloured they don't recommend it for aquariums as it has mould inhibitors added. Does anyone know a particular brand that is safe for aquariums? Cheers
  17. Has the hypancistrus zebra fallen off the list? I can't see it. Those who have this fish in NZ will hopefully be able to mass produce it.
  18. I would imagine that it would probably be similar to the natural habitat of discus at sometimes of the year for the pH. I can't see there being much issue.
  19. Not that I have tried it but apparently duckweed needs a still water surface. Massive water flow at the top may slow down the growth. Unfortunately though the only successful method I have used is removing it with a net - pretty much daily removal to avoid it taking over again.
  20. Crack or Chip? I wouldn't worry too much about a chip, but if it has cracked any movement could cause the crack to grow bigger, resulting in a wet floor and possible loss of fish.
  21. I had a pair of oscars, one jag and a breeding pair of blue acaras in a 4'x2'x2' not so long ago. I ran a fluval 404 (from memory 1200L/Hr) without any problems in the tank - apart from the jag eating the blue acara fry
  22. I went for a walk around long bay a couple of years back and there were some quite nice large specimens.
  23. They look like the pristella or X-ray tetra to me
  24. They are not orange Wok, Would have stuck out like a sore thumb in a largely orange tank, can you guess the boss's favourite colour? I'll give you a hint - it's not pink
