  1. Yep we have three plain, and one golden girl
  2. Hi there, we have a 190 litre tank that has four bristles in it with an assortment of other fish. One bristle is quite obviously a boy and has grown big, he is about eight months old. One is definitely a girl - GBA - about six months old. Third one is six months old and we have just realised what we thought was a girl is a boy. Bristles are starting to develop. Fourth is only two months old and not yet sexable. But the two boys seem to be having a bit of aggro at the moment, with the smaller of the two having a bit taken out of his top fin. Is it possible that the big one is just dominating and this will stop, or do you think it would be a good idea to put two caves in to the tank - with only one open end to give each of the boys his own territory. All going well the little one will grow up to be a girl and they can live happily as pairs (?)
  3. Sadly this is just part of this fish sometimes - we just had our one pass last week after fighting an infection for a week. Developed a red mark which became a white hole which spread. I was PM'ed by someone on an international forum who said the same thing happened to hers. sorry it happened to you so fast though, we at least got two months with goozer
  4. we have one tank with a fluval 405 and one tank with an eheim 2213 - I am a big fan of the fluval 5 series, but from my lesson that I learnt, spend a little bit more money when you set it up and it saves you spending even more when you need to upgrade.
  5. Thanks Caryl, will my little baby Bristlenose be alright during the black out period for the four days without food or am I better to aclimate him to my 190 litre tank instead and pop him in there? There are three bristles in there already which are quite a bit bigger than the little one but it is a big tank. If I do put him in the big tank i assume he won't transfer the cyano with him? And the infected plant would make sense, we had noticed there seemed to be some strands of the moss that were almost glued together when we got it, I cut alot off but maybe didn't get it all.
  6. Hi my 65 litre tank has a neon green algae which comes off like a skin when I do a gravel siphon. Parameters in the tank are ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 5-10 - do 50% water changes 1 to 2 times per week. Has 6 neons, 6 glowlights and 6 black neons with one baby (and I mean baby) bristlenose. We had two little babies but have just lost one. Filtered by a eheim classic 2213 so quite overfiltered as it does 440l per hour. I thought it might be cyano but only seems to be info about it in salt water tanks. Any ideas whether I am right and how to treat. This is a very low light tank - only 24 watts, only java moss in tank.

    Cory's

Hey Cam, what happened to him? I think they are quite hardy but you can get the odd one, we had one who started to have fits a couple of days after we got him and died, it was horrible. And then another one disappeared, never to be seen of again. Bloddy cute little things though, make you laugh with all their tail wagging. Breeding isn't too hard I think but like all fish just need the right conditions
  8. We had a huge issue JBL fertiliser balls that were under the substrate. Came home and the entire tank was dark brown from where they had leached into the water. but even though it looked like something from a horror movie the fish were all just fine.

Yeah try the courgette. Take the skin off most of it - but leave a bit at the bottom to hold it together, put in a glass of water in the microwave for 3 mins 30, tip out the water and put in cold water to cool it down. After about half an hour put in the tank. We have three bristles, 1 golden and 2 normal and they strip it overnight.
  10. It's not an algae bloom, we actually have surprisingly little algae, but it is a newish tank at 8 and a half weeks and we had a slight filter issue which caused ammonia for two days until we realised what was going on. I think this might have caused the tank to go into a bacterial bloom - we had one just over a month ago as well. But aside from that, the filter does seem to be near it's limit and I thought it would be a good idea to go bigger
  11. Hi there We currently have a FLUVAL Vincenza tank which has the plumbing already for a Fluval filter. The Fluval 205 canister came with it, but being a 190litre tank this is right at the max for the 205 (up to 200 litres). We have been experiencing a bacterial bloom and one suggestion was that the tank may not be turning over as much as it needs to. So I was looking at the Fluval 405 (up to 400 litres), but does anyone know if the set up such as the aquastop valve, hoses etc is the same and we could just change the canisters over?
  12. Yeah we did another water test last night, and the params are still all good, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5-10. I'm going to start doing 10% each night or every second instead of the 30% every three days just to keep the water turning over, and then maybe a bigger one on the weekend.
  13. Yeah we have been doing quite a bit of gravel vaccing lately, and there has been quite a bit of brown coming up, so that might be contributing as well.
  14. It was JBL Fertiliser balls, but I think that just happened at the same time as the bacterial bloom, and it was only cos the calls started leeching that we really noticed the difference in the water colour. But that was over a month ago now and I don't think it has caused the problem this time round. I guess we'll just wait it out.
  15. oh and yes we did put fertiliser under the gravel which caused the issue the first time round, but that has sorted itself now
  16. tank physical size is 110 x 67 x 45 - it is a corner tank, bowfront, with literage of 190. The fish seem to be doing good, the odessa's are colouring nicely and everyone is swimming round, parameters are being tested every three days and there hasn't been a change in these at all. I wondered if it was a new tank thing as well, that's why we aren't putting in any chemicals, just thought we would ride it out. I did suggest getting a Fluval 305 to my husband but he looked at me funny. I might investigate that a little more. We also did have an issue about two weeks ago where the filter was very clogged - a polishing pad that had done a bit too much polishing so got some ammonia back, wondered if that might have sent it back to the bloom again.
  17. Hiya, tank is 9 weeks old. Cycled fully - seeded from another tank that was cycled. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate constantly round 5-10. Has been that way for over two weeks. Am going through a milky water period, this is the second time. First time it cleared up okay and that was about a month ago, but was wondering what causes this. I could have been guilty of overfeeding, but not for the past two weeks as i pegged it back and then it started. fish are two angels, 1 dwarf gourami, 7 lemon tetras, 7 odessa's, 8 panda cats and 3 bristlenose in a 50 gallon filtered with fluval 205 and internal sponge filter for extra. Should i do more water changes, less (currently doing 30% every three days), lights on, off ( 2 x T5) any help much appreciated.

    ID please

It's also possible that these are the ones that are referred to as "blush" which are bred to have the redder gills like that.
  19. Yep will do, I might leave it a little longer anyway, I feel better now that the canister is running so I'll leave it for a couple of weeks, and then try to fit the noodles into the classic as a bit of extra
  20. we happened to go through animates today, more out of curiosity than anything and they had an eheim external canister classic 2213 at half price and with voucher cost $130. figured I could pay that for an internal or another hang on back, so its on and going great! Now that sucker has media!
  21. I've been having a bit of trouble with it, this is the second hang on back we've put on it and they just don't seem to be that great. the flow out of them seems quite low.
  22. Hi all, 65litre tank with 18 tetras, 3 ottos and 3 pygmys. Currently has an aquaclear 30 hang on back filter, but would like to put an internal filter on. Any recommendations on a good one, have looked round but they all seem to just be sponge with no room for ceramic noodles etc? Any advice gratefully accepted
  23. Wasn't sure, maybe four?
  24. Hi, we have a tank with 2 dwarf gourami, 7 lemons, 7 odessas, 6 pandas and 3 bristlenose. Could you add angels to the mix? 50 gallon tank.
  25. What about readings for nitrite and nitrate - what are they showing? Nitrite spikes will kill fish just as quickly and high nitrates could also be an issue.
