  1. Yep it's an aqua one heater.......... I have other suction cups will swap it out as its yuk if it manages o get into the water
  2. Hi. I keep getting a white gel like sludge on my heater suction cups in my small tank. Anyone know what it is? Tanks is 10 days old, 18 neons in it, amm 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 0-5, tank was seeded from fully cycled tank. 60litres.. It can't be that there is no water circulation as the filter outlet points straight at it across the back of the tank. Photo below [url=
  3. My tank is in a room with windows on every wall and two walls with massive ranch sliders. I simply put black paper on the back and one side to keep it out where possible and have no algae issues at all. Worst case get vertical blinds so you can direct the sunlight enough to be away from tank. If directly in front then yes it could be a problem.
  4. What temp is the tank - strange to have goldfish and tropicals in one tank?
  5. Thanks Nudge, I get bored if I can't interact with my pets so I like to do water changes. Keeps it pretty clean, nitrate under 10 is my goal. Looks good right now. Discus guru -was making dinner tonight (tank is at the end of my bench) and look up and here are six little discus all In a row looking at me. The speech bubble said 'mum I'm hungry'. Feeding them little and often as well. So fingers crossed .
  6. Went to visit Ron yesterday and bought home my new babies. Photos aren't great due to reflections but turns out the little buggers don't just pose when you snap your fingers. 6 discus as follows Pigeon 1- Barbie ( she spends a lot of time looking at herself in the glass) Pigeon 2 - Mr G (g stands for grumpy, he has a grumpy face) Blue Diamond - John (my partners name as it thinks its in charge but isn't) Blue Turq- Denise (named after me because it is in charge and knows it) RoseRed 1 - Con (stripes look like a convict) RoseRed 2- Braveheart (he spent most of yesterday hiding, and my mother in law spent two hours talking to it 'encouraging' it to come out. Tried to explain discus hierarchy, didn't work. Will post another couple of photos soon. Also all neons out of tank now and in my new one, just too much competition for food so they had to come out, happier in their new tank with the lower temp. Feel free to tell me your thoughts. [/img
  7. There is usually nothing left after 30 seconds but their tummies look full so I don't like to give them more. Thanks Sophia re the pouring it in in water, that's a great idea. I will keep up with the daily feeds and up it a bit for the bottom feeders. I do two water changes a week so have no concerns re the bio load on tank
  8. Thanks kinnadian, i agree re temp so have been slowly working to bring the temp up. Rummies - I agree, was going to add some this weekend but the LFS didn't have any. Rummies at three was as a result of an earlier issue - I did have ten. Re the cories, I'm intrigued about this whole thing because since I started upping the temp all the fish are showing better colour and seem happier. The cories are out the front more, playing more and seem happier. Tank is now at 28, which is was actually spiking too each day in the heat anyway, so now it is consistent all day. And the cories have been doing the frisky dance a lot too. I have another tank so will absolutely take anything out that is not flourishing and put them where happy
  9. Thanks BikBok, do you feed your mid to high level fish each day as well, or they every second day?
  10. Love how the dog is looking down into the tank
  11. If you have bottom feeders and mid to high level do you feed all of them every day, every second day, alternate etc? I have bristles, cories and md level fish and tend to feed different ones each day which means feeding something each day. But wondering if it would be better to feed all fish every second day, with veges for the bristles every fourth day. What do you do?
  12. Thanks, the length of time it is taking for the small tank to clear they might end up staying there. Got a bigger filter today, but still it won't clear. Funnily enough gone up one degree and the harlequins and rummies look happier than ever. Even the neons looks good, will try to catch them tomorrow depending on the quality of water in the smaller tank. And thanks for your comments re my big tank, I'm so excited..........
  13. Over to meet Ron, and talk Discus, and now finally feel good about having them, Ron -thank you. Your advice was great, and I appreciate the time. Neons have to come out of my big tank due to the temp, so what's a girl to do, but head off tot the local fish shop and get a new tank! So now a lovely little 60l sitting in the corner, which is going to house only my 24 neons and one bristle (or maybe two). And the plants I bought from Sophia, and it will look very cool. It's more of a nano, that Morc inspired me to, so should be lots of fun. Not so much fun trying to net 25 neons in a 300l tank however. 6 down, 19 to go. I want to seed it from my big tank though but it's a inside Hailea filter and I have. Fluval 405 on my big thank -how would I seed it if the new filter doesn't have room for bio balls? Just hang some in the tank somehow?.... Anyway in the meantime, I am going to get 6 discus from Ron next week, finally fulfill my dream, and manage to convince my partner it was his idea to get another tank. And I still have the 90l I got from Sam I got for QT. a good day all round
  14. Yep heading into his shop to see him tomorrow
  15. Hi all. Always been a dream of mine to have discus. I have a 300l tank, with bristlenoses, cories, neons, harlequins and three rummies in it. But how do you know whether or not you can add Discus? Tank is 9 weeks old, fully cycled, over filtered, gravel vacc'ed and 20% water change every 2 to 3 days. Everything is 0, bar nitrates which are 5, kh and gh are 3. Can I have Discus, and if so how many? It's a nerve wracking decision ................ And if so who or where is the best place to get them?
  16. Thanks guys, I will go shopping ........
  17. Hi there, can anyone recommend a good low light, easy. Growing but tall plant? My tank is 60cm tall and I want something to grow up the back, got twisted val which is growing well sideways but not tall...........
  18. Ira - like many parents I just thought they were holding hands, not heading to third base! I shall look with interest, if I can find some eggs I will move them to my QT tank. Having said that, so in love with my cats right now, cute little dudes!
  19. Ahhhh. How cool is that. Nothing so far but it's so beautiful to watch
  20. These two do this a lot and pretty much every day, it's almost like they are holding hands, will go off on their own then come back to each other. It's just so cute! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t6tlAukK9o8&feature=youtube_gdata_player&rdm=ysu4q5rs&layout=tablet&client=mv-google
  21. Can I ask where you got the tank from?
  22. Tis all good, thanks for it anyway. I've been leaning towards accepting that I might just not have the strongest. Touch wood but the last three rummies are glowing nicely, the neons look good and the harlequins are crazy. Did some more research online And it is normal for bristles to do that, sometimes they change depending on mood or substrate nd mine is white. I'm just going to try to relax and enjoy my tank. It is a beautiful set up so I might just keep an eye out and get over myself.
