  1. I have 13 full grown yellows, and I have added a breeding pair of convicts and five youngsters. I added them as I had no choice and to my suprise they are all doing ok! These are temporary measures until I sort out my filtration systems over the weekend. Thanks for the comments 8)
  2. Hi guys, I have acquired some convicts, originally to put in my community tank (didn't work out)! So, Plan B, put them in with the Yellows, I don't mind a bit of fin nipping OR if the convicts don't last in the tank, BUT I do not want to loose my yellows, they are a good vibrant stock. Currently have the convicts in a fifty litre container until I know if it will be 'safe' enough, for now. Hope to have some replys :nilly:
  3. Hi, welcome to you and your expanding family
  4. Get On Your Boots - U2
  5. I just had some (brown) shipped to me only a few weeks ago, they even had to wait until I finished work and where fine, although they are 'rare' I beleive they are still as hardy as a bristlenose should be.
  6. They were sold but more has been listed! If only it wasn't so close to Christmas!
  7. There has been quite an interest in long fin bristlenoses at the moment, but you may notice on a auction site that finally albino long fins are available! I say, we get them breeding to continue to offer such beautys
  8. If your in Wellington, I would check out Pet Centre in either Lower Hutt or Porirua!
  9. Wellington Fireworks was great, just very cold! Although our neighbours fireworks went until 3am, my animals were not impressed!
  10. Can Apple Snails live in a tank with a high P.H? Was thinking of putting some in my African Tank but the P.H is a lot higher due to the needs of Electric Yellows, would the higher P.H be ok? (Google, doesn't seem to have an answer)
  11. We are currently planning our first pond! We have a few ideas but lacking some inspiration, I was wondering if you could post some pictures of your ponds to help spark our creativity! We are thinking some-thing along the lines of building up the land to raise the pond, using mainly rocks and natural looking materials to give an authentic natual look - if that makes sense! So I would love to see the projects of others! Thanks
  12. See I have had GAE and had nothing but problems with them, they grow so fast that they move from sucking the algae to sucking the actual fish! I gave away my last one to the petshop recently, it got to 17cms!
  13. I have a 200-an something litre Electric Yellow only tank, have between 12-15 yellows, beautiful tank of crushed coral at the bottom, built with limestone and dolomite rocks, mature tank of about three years old. But no matter where in the house the tank is moved to, it is prone to green glass alage - so I have to bite the bullet (no, not clean it every day!) but get a algae eater in there to help them out! The problem is I am so darn picky! I have only selected the best looking and healthy yellows for this tank, and the tank is spotless looking, I don't really want to put in some-thing that will 'clash' with my colours (typical girl!) any-way I was thinking maybe a golden apple snail, never had snails before, so would it eat the algae and live peacefully in the tank? Bristlenose & Golden Algae Eaters are out of the question, so it leaves a flying fox maybe? What is your thoughts?
  14. White spot is completely gone, but I will continue to gravel vac for a few more days to make sure there is no cysts in the gravel. Oscar is eating well and his "wounds" have healed immediately. One more question: my Ghost Knife seems to be eating the sides of the Oscar which I pressume is his slime coat, would that make him more likely to catch an illness?
  15. I vote for Card Two! - Even with the goldfish!
  16. Partner suggested cat + brick = no more cat! So, I said I would deal with it lol, council are coming to pick him up tomorrow. Now I hope he DOES hang around, so they can get him. I placed a ad in our local fish n chips shop down the road, saying this cat was lurking around and that the council would be collecting him tomorrow,. I placed my cell phone number on the ad just incase some-one may recognise the cat as a domestic cat. Hopefully things work out ok.
  17. I did have a large colony, around 13, some were massive, I had collected them for about three years, buying one at a time of the biggest sizes I could find, but due to a few things going wrong they caught whitespot and as I was away for a few days my "fish sitter" wasn't aware of whitespot and I caught it too late, I was so upset I swore I would never get them again (they are my favourite fish). We use to love watching them school up and down the corners of the tanks, and then prying open snails and eating them. So, about a year later here I am starting from the begining with collecting them again, but instead of going through the heartache I would rather buy a whole heap, grow them out and keep them healthy from the start. Paul_R I would take advantage of Animates deal, but with Oscar having whitespot I will not be adding any fish for a few weeks, so finger crossed there will be another sale to come. Plus another LPS know me well, and I have spent $1000s with them, so I am sure they could make me a deal I couldn't refuse, when the time is right. For now I am just doing research of the best way to add them all at once, so thank you all who have contributed to this thread, been a major help.
  18. I have spotted him back, unfortunatly my older girl is under the house hiding. Will try get her in, and I never thought of the council, so will give them a call tomorrow morning, first thing. I would rather they take care of him as even though I wan't him gone, I don't have bone in my body to bring myself to doing it myself.
  19. Its the money now not in the future I am worried about  maybe I could do 15 . . . ASB how do you feel about that?
  20. Do you know how expensive it would be to get that many in one hit! But, I am tempted!
  21. But I thought once full grown (I know it takes years) 20 would be far too much!
