  2. Hornby Vet in Chch have special interest in Reptiles. Ross is the expert on turtles, but I believe Pauline is pretty up on the Beardie, Leopard geko side of things... They also have loads of vet reptile books and links to overseas vets to look up things they don't know as well

  12. picture of bone cement on bad fractures...... Side Fracture unable to be cemented succesfully (Car accident victim...didnt survive tho )
  13. Great that shes still eating! I've been using those bio-supplies 'turtle treats' with good success to get ABs into the more 'tricky' turtles. A smaller 'wasp lava' slightly defrosted holds the baytril if injected into it and turtle will usually swallow in one gulp  Yes, baytril soaks are somewhat newer on the tmt plan I believe, but seem to have a positive outcome in most cases. Bone cement at the vet is an option if the fracture needs holding together a bit more. Possibly a pretty slim chance of survival in the long term I imagine tho.... but I hope to see her in person when we visit at end of Oct :bounce: :bounce:
  14. OK, so I sent photos to vet and this is reply re baytril doses..... HI Donna, I spoken to Pauline, Ross is gone for the day: so you have to debride the lesions, and try to get all the broken shell out of the holes. The soak is: 1ml of 2.5% baytril injectable per 12l of water daily for 3days, with very good/long dry time after soak. Oral dose for baytril in this nasty case should be 10mg/kg every 24h (or as injection into muscle), of baytril 2.5%. Hope that helps, and it gets better soon! Kind Regards Veronika Subject: Urgent Help please .
  15. Yes, I agree with Nav. The peroxide should be a 1/10 soln and should only be used for the first initial clean. Baytril is widely used and effective for turts. Either bathing and inj (or oral) and so long as dose per weight is correct, it will be fine. Yes, sticking to one tmt is best. Personally I'd think for me I'd be doing the initial clean of wounds (even if they bleed and poss need a sprinkle of permanganate), then stick to baytril inj, dry docking and 2 periods of rehydrating/ eating etc in very clean water daily. And one soak in a baytril bath prior to dry docking for the night. The girl I had out of the river, with a hole right thru her carapace exposing the flesh, responded most to dry docking...stressful tho that is for a turtle...and once there was a thin film of skin over the hole, betadine was used as well. With your one thats a huge amount of bone exposed for a turtle I'd be worried about her pain levels and the dog saliva and its incredible risk of infection in its victim Maybe the baytril baths need to be more frequent? Thats where I'd want a vets advice.....
  16. Also do a full soak (bath) in baytril solution. I've just done that for a girl covered in small sores possibly from thorns. Need to sus out the rate tho.... Send an email thru to Ross or Pauline at [email protected] for dose rate and frequency. If she drinks some of the solution, then all the better. I think it was 1 ml per 10 litres clean water but could be completely wrong! Good tmt for such open wounds tho. But yes I'd be treating orally or injecting baytril as well. Also a sprinkle of pertassium permanganate is good to stop bleeding...and yes I'd be doing a clean with peroxide and a soft toothbrush first on all that open stuff Going to be a long haul to get that one back to health Good luck!!!
  17. DEFINATELY Chocolate! :bounce:
  18. Yes, I've had someone pm me too asking when and where mtg is. I thought it was at humvees....but is that confirmed?
  19. No heater in the summer and around 22-24 in winter. But were over 2 yrs old so fine with that. Babies wouldnt have liked the cooler environment out there. They didnt hibernate...obviously at 22+ deg. but would slow down a bit when really cold patch of weather.
  20. I had a rectangular pond in the conservatory. (Not a fancy glass one, just a decking area that was enclosed 2 sides with walls of house, other walls with sliding doors, windows and had a lazerlight type roof.) Basically a long, deep planter box type thing. Half was garden and half pond liner with a built in ramp and turtles in it. Worked well for years till I needed something bigger
  21. ummmm, what exactly does this mean?
  22. My pleco regularly takes a ride on the turtle shells. No damage.
