  1. So that means I'm weird, I'm odd and I'm a nerd...
  2. He sounds like a total snob. What he is saying is totally untrue. A better way for him to put it would be "I'm not really a big fan of fish, but I quite like dogs" or something like that. I really hate it when people insist that fish are boring and lame. I wonder what they'd think after sitting in front of a reef tank for half an hour...

Yay my tank is beautiful and clean now  I syphoned up the gunk on the bottom (which is really easy as it has no substrate) and slightly repositioned my Windelov log, and did a 50% waterchange, repositioned the filter outflow and added some Flourish Excel. My fish were looking very happy when I'd finished, and the Emperor Tetras were chasing each other up and down the tank. They are so beautiful to watch, because their colours seem to 'flash' when they swim really fast, and they have lovely little neon blue eyes

Next step is to clean my tank Ever since I removed my big Red Rose x Ozelot Sword and sold it to Fishie123 I've had all sorts of algae problems and my tank is hideous

    high NZ dollar

http://www.greenleafaquariums.com/ Excellent customer service and lovely products I got a CAL Aqua Nano Fluxus set, a CAL Aqua Nano Drop Checker and some CO2-resistant tubing and a bottle of GLA Bubble Counter Fluid !drool: $200 NZD for all that
  6. Have you thought about drilling into the back of the tank and adding a 90 degree angle pipe facing upwards for your overflow? Much tidier than your big one in the picture, and just as good. Also it means your tank is less cluttered with sump/filter equipment so you have more room for live rock which means more good bacteria and more corals  You can still use the spraybar. Just move it down towards the bottom so the water will be blasted around the live rock. That way the water will be filtered better because the bactaria will eat any ammonia and nitrate or whatever that your skimmer might have missed Just a thought anyway; I'm no expert lol.

I cleaned my room yesterday. Heaps of tidying, dusting and vacuuming. But it was definately worth it because it looks so much better now and I have lots of space.

Pics of the fish please Sam? :bounce:
  12. The price has nothing to do with how bright the tubes are and what height they are rated for. In fact as far as I know tubes aren't rated for particular aquarium heights. Cheap ones are probably a waste of money because cheap = bad quality usually. And the more expensive ones are most likely more expensive because they are better quality, and usually they have much nicer colours too. If I were you I'd get a couple of PowerGlos. They're good quality, great for growing plants and they will make the colours of your fish look nice too HTH.

If your bored, go on to google images and google "Reef Aquarium" and you'll be entertained for hours !drool: Errr! Bunny is so annoying, she keeps wandering into the laundry room and tipping over the cat biscuits Then Sooty gets in a huff because her biscuits are all over the floor so I have to pick up whatever bunny hasn't eaten and then give Sooty a fresh bowl of biscuits to keep her happy.
  14. Wow that is fabulous I'm getting pretty tempted to ditch planted and get a reef, at least once I get a part-time job so I can afford it lol

I have a lovely male with quite a bit of red on his tummy for sale for $35. I do understand the price of turks have gone up a bit from what I've been told, but I wouldn't sell anything for over $35 though

What! I sold a male I bred for $25. I bought my breeding pair for $40, and they are very well-bred good quality stock.

I was looking at a nano 27w CF light

    Voltage input

If something is rated say 100v and 50-60Hz is it still safe for use here? (Of course with a voltage converter)
  22. Cool tank! Needs some real plants though :bounce:
  23. Wow that list is quite nice. Although I think that 6 black widows isn't enough schooling fish. Maybe get a group of Black Neons or Cardinals as well (like about 50 or so)? Or even some little rainbow fish? At least something nice and colourful that is always swimming about
