    60cm Journal

Tank looks great Rhinox Diffuser looks ugly :-?
  2. No offense or anything, but the discus look terrible in that tank, and the colours do not go well with the other fish. When they get bigger, they will totally ruin the sense of scale in the tank. Get a trio of Apistos or Dwarf Flags. You should set up a seperate, large tank with all different coloured discus. That would look cool.
  3. Ember Tetras? Gouramis (Pearl, Banded)? Danio erythromicron?
  4. Use Lilaeopsis instead of hairgrass. It's way nicer.

    Glass Question

Hi peoplez, The other day I rang a glass company in Marlborough to ask if they sold OptiWhite Glass, because I want some panels to make a tank. They said they didn't have it, but they can get it in for me. They call it OptiClear or Low-Ion Glass. Anyway, they asked if I wanted it strengthened. I asked them what they meant, and they just said they can make it stronger. What exactly does this mean? It it necessary for a tank, say, 60x30x35cm (just taking a random small standard size)? What are the pros and cons of strengthened glass? Is it more prone to shattering, or does it have any danger issues? Please help me out here Joe

    favourite petshop??

Oragnism is the BEST! I love going there whenever I go to ChCh. I've got a lot of really good discounts etc. and everything I've ever bought there has been of outstanding quality.
  8. But it was soooo healthy and lush. I wouldn't mind paying extra for quality. Oh well, its gone now.
  9. OK. I'll just try it, and if I don't like it then I'll swap it for something else
  10. So do you think it would look good in a 52x27x32cm nano (decided I want it a bit bigger since it's my first time)? I'll have some glosso, and maybe Lilaeopsis. I'm not sure about riccia anymore. I might use that in the smaller nano I plan to set up after this one. What lighting do you think will be good? I was thinking, since there's going to be glosso, 3x 8watt 30cm T5 PowerGlo, and 2x 20cm Power compact (for the sides). Nutient rich substrate plus DIY CO2 too.
  11. I know! I saw some at the petshop once. A huge pot - enough to plant a nano - and it was only $18! It was so cool. They also have the mauritiana as well sometimes, and that's another one I really like. Brasiliensis looks very similar too.
  12. I have a large piece of bogwood in my tank with Xmas moss on it. I have it under a T8 AquaGlo (18,000K) and an Aqua One T8 tube (15,000K). It grows flat, but very compact, and has very well-defined triangular fronds. My fish sometimes eat little microbes amongst its foliage, but never touch the moss itself. It doesn't break of either, just gets bigger and bigger.
  13. Oh I feel gutted for you He was a lovely fish.
  14. Wow what amazing fish! Your photography skills are fantastic! I NEED some of those fish!!!
  15. I still want to use glosso and riccia for the sunstrate. Hemianthus will look good trimmed into little mounds like you suggested Jennifer. Ludwigia arcuata - what a great idea for red! Why didn't I think of that? Another plant I can use is Lilaeopsis sp.
  16. No it won't, because I forgot to mention its going to be tied to the substrate
  17. Righty ho, that's definately out. Are there any plants that are red and grow quite short? I've got Sag. microfolia and subdulata. Subdulata can grow up to 60cm in high light, and I need high light for the glosso and riccia, so I'll use the microfolia. It grows to about 10cm I think, maybe bigger, under high light. One plant I forgot to mention is Hemianthus umbrosum. Does anyone have a bit they could sell me?
  18. Would riccia and glosso grow well under the same lighting levels that you're growing the polysperma? I'm intending to put them in the same tank.
  19. How high would you suggest? Is there any other plant that looks like polysperma "Rosanervig" that grows shorter? Maybe I could ditch the polysperma altogether and fill that corner with hairgrass or sagittaria?
  20. Wopsies, I wasn't reading properly  (trypical me  ). Sorry.
  21. No not Dutch. Sort of ADA, but really I'm making up my own style. The riccia and glosso will carpet most of the tank, and the Hygro. polysperma "Rosanervig" will be in the left hand corner. Yes the tank is going to be custom-made (out of OptiWhite Glass too :bounce: ).
  22. Hi everyone, I'm getting a 52x26x31 nano aquarium, and I'm thinking of growing the following in it: Hygrophila polysperma "Rosanervig" (Sunset Hygro) Riccia Glosso Possibly a bit of hairgrass and/or Xmas moss Filtration will be an Eheim Classic 250 2213. Fish - Ember Tetras. Lighting - thinking of a couple of 8 watt T5 PowerGlos (30cm), and a power compact at each side since the powerglos aren't the length of the tank, and leave a 10cm gap of unlighted area on each side. CO2 - with all the plants and amount of light, I figure DIY should be fine. I'll use a coke bottle or something. Substrate: JBL Aquabasis Plus, JBL Manado, a bit of laterite and some sand. Heating - I'll find something suitible. Does this sound good? Have I missed anything? What care is required? And most of all, will this work? I can't really find any good, solid, reliable info on the net. Joe
