    Lemon Tetras

What's so ugly about Kitty Tetras? They're a million times nicer than Lemon Tetras. Lemon Tetras should be renamed 'Medusa Tetras'!
  3. Freezer panel, or poly panel, is great for the floor. I use it in my pigeon loft so they don't get cold feet

    Lemon Tetras

I have a fish called Kitty Tetra (Hyphessobrycon heliacus). They are about the same price as Lemon Tetras, except they are completely iridecent golden-yellow (whereas lemon tetras are grey with a yellow patch on their fin. Some individuals are tinged yellow). So basically they are a much nicer fish. I'm not sure if they are still availible (I got mine at the start of the year, and that's the only time I've ever seen them), but if you can track some down, they are much nicer than Lemon tetras, and you will get much more pleasure out of them Here's some photos off the net for you: Young males: http://www.tamfish.de/resources/H.+heliacus.jpg Females: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/c ... b26aka.jpg Male with well-developed dorsal fin and great colouration: http://www.laquari.com/catalog/images/h ... liacus.jpg Lemon Tetra for comparison: http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums.com ... 5. The one that is sort of in the center, to the right a little.
  6. What is the big sword plant with the round leaves?
  7. Tiger Lotus is a good idea. You could also try plants that grow really tall, and start creeping along the surface once they reach it. For example, Ludwigia repens, Hygrophila difformis etc. I also saw a photo on the forums somewhere of someone's Crypt. affinis, that grew absoloutly HUGE! It had a similar effect like tiger lotus.
  8. Yeah I know, because I'm always admiring them whenever I come to your place and see your fish They are really cool
  9. Can't you propagate plants - take cutting etc? Or doesn't it work with that particular plant?
  10. Wow that bottom picture of the male is awesome. He looks just as nice as the Dehane. I'll have to get some eventually. They are a really cool fish.
  11. Could you post some photos please?
  12. Hi, Can we get these in New Zealand? Pair: http://www.cichlidsforum.fr/files/pelvi ... 2__162.jpg Male: http://www.cichlidsforum.fr/files/pelvi ... 3__171.jpg They are such awesome fish, and are much nicer than wild kribs and normal kribs. Thanks, Joe
  13. I have a couple of pekins and a partridge wyandott, and they lay quite well. The yolks of the eggs are bright yellow, and are great in baking. You don't need to clip their wings; it is pointless, and they'll still find a way to escape if that's what they want to do. They are very clever creatures. Ours have a small run that they sleep and lay in. It has a door that we leave open during the day, and they rome free around the property all day. We live in the middle of town, next to a very busy street, and the chooks never run out onto the road. We feed them plenty of scraps. They like worms and bugs too, which they get from the garden. They also need a bit of grit if you aren't going to let them out of their run. Ours don't need it because we have sand and fine stones lying around the house, which they peck at. You can also get them calcium and mineral cakes, but that isn't completely neccecery. Plenty of clean water is a must. We give them fresh meadow hay in their run. Wood shavings are messy, and they aren't very soft for the chooks either. The chooks come inside sometimes and steal catfood, and even pieces of meat that my mum puts on a plate for the cats when she's making dinner!

    Jungle side

Wow! How do you do that? What is your secret to creating a stunning piece of work like that? Tell me tell me TELL ME!!! I wish we could get Amano Shrimps in NZ.
  15. Wow your tank is wonderful! I love your discus too.
  16. Nice tank! Ditch the pile of rocks on the right hand side, it looks weird. Get a medium bulky rock (thats smooth, without jagged edges) and surround it with a few smaller rocks of different sizes, that look similar in colour. As for fish, I think a large shoal of tetras/rasboras/danios would look nice. Here's some ideas: - Rasbora hengeli - Danio aesculapii - Danio choprae - Rasbora agilis (they look similar to red-line rasboras, but they are darker with a neon bronze line down the side) - Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi - Hyphessobrycon heliacus And Bedotia madagascariensis, which is a rainbowfish, would also look cool. You also need a feature fish. Cichlids are good - how about Pelvicachromis taeniatus moliwe, or P. pulcher? Both are peaceful, plus they'll have plenty of hiding places in all of that java fern. Preferably I think the P. taeniatus moliwe are really nice. They are small too, so you can get two or three pairs maybe?
  17. CPDs - very easy to spawn, and are very pleasurable. Also Danio erythromicron, tinwini, choprae, and Apistos, Wild kribs (they're smaller and much nicer looking than normal kribs), Rasboras.
  18. Cool tank land_lubber What's cambodia? Do you mean cabomba, or is it an entirely different plant?
  19. I once had a stunning pair of Apistogramma trifasciata 'Rio Guapore'. They looked slightly nicer than this pair: http://www.aquabase.org/member/album/pi ... C_full.jpg My male had a lovely, well-developed dorsal fin, and pelvic fins like the fish in the photo. I got the pair from Redwood Aquatics in Christchurch. I spawned them, but the silly things ate all their fry! I moved them to my 150 liter tank, and shortly afterwards I had an outbreak of columnaris that killed all fish but 5 tetras and my GBAs. The Apistos were the last to die however. I thought they would go first if there was a disease. But they died anyway... If anyone ever sees a pair of those Apisto. trifasciata 'Rio Guapore', PLEASE let me know, because I REALLY want some more!
  20. Bad news - mum told me that I'm not allowed to get them, and I have to focus on getting my new tank set up and getting the bits for it, and then I can worry about getting other fish afterwards. I have plenty of room in my 150 liter holding tank, but mum still says no If anyone gets these fish, breed them so they stay in the country
