  1. discus have a real hierarchy and will always chase one another so unless one is getting hurt or not feeding dont worry too much. adding more will spread out the agression somewhat but there will still be dominant fish which guard a specific territory. i usually jus make sure there are enough hiding places for everyone. hope that helps.
  2. haha lucky. iv got a pair that are trying but got a funny feelin they lackin the male in the partnership
  3. go 4 discus they way cooler and not nearly as hard to keep as many people think. i do a waterchange or 2 per week which varies between 30-50% and my fish are better than any iv ever seen in shops. i feed a cube of bloodworms a day and colourbits whenever i walk past angels get boring after a while, no challenge and usually rediculously tame and keen to breed. also i keep 6 discus 2 plecs and a loach in a 4footx1x1 and theres heaps of space. just get them young at the same size to avoid teritory issues.

    discus war

yep i agree wit all that, mine are the same and definitely the best way to go is to re- introduce the troublemaker, i have even put one in time out for 2 weeks in isolation oand sorted most of my probs out. there will always be an alpha however. jus make sure they all get to feed
  5. blood worms are really good and they love them! also oxheart is a good source of protein for fast growth and easily kept in small frozen amounts then grated into the tank. also i feed tetracolour bits which are supposed to be a natural colour enhancer and are a good slow sinking food which is helpful for discus as they are often too timid to feed on floating food at first. hope that helps, i use it all on my discus and they are in top health and lookin really good wit zero other aditives to my tank
  6. they need 2 be primed up dont thy? orit will get an airlock. nut dont quote me on that lol
  7. i use a chunk of clean coral to help stabilise the ph at a higher level for my discus and always keep bogwood in to stop it rising too far and also as a natural food source usually the bogwood is fine but every now and again i throw th coral in when necessary.

    heaters

is it just me or are the "thermostats" in the submersible heaters just bulls***? cos iv tried both of mine (relatively new and appropriate wattage) in both my tanks and no matter how high i turn then (max is 34C as usual) they wont heat the water over 27C. does this need i need more or is it some kind of anomaly? cheers
  10. wicked thanks for the advice. its startin 2 look like the big ones are calming down a little, think il keep the little one out for a couple weeks then 're-introduce it' and following that put the hopefully larger other two in. patience i guess.
  11. hey all, i need a little help from some seasoned discus'ers i had one 8cm blue/red turq and one 6cm pidgeon discus that got on well with one another and the plec and tetras i have in my tank. i recently purchased a 9cm turq and my new fish have not accepted it after over a week and a half. on saturday i got sick of them fighting (and causing my new fish to have not eaten since i got it) an went out and bought a 11cm rising sun. the fighting continued..... in the end i took out the smaller pidgeon and put him in my small tank for 'time out' but now my original turq still chases the new two. this is really annoying me as i do not want to lose my new fish, especially for the sake of my original smaller ones. i had hoped by getting large ones they would not fight but they sure do!! does anyone have any tips? im trying to raise up 2x baby (5cm) snakeskins asap to get a larger community going but i had thought 4 discus in one 1200x400x300 tank would be fine. thanks!
  12. Anybody tried it? they seem to like it... cheers
