    my oscar

lol yeah that was cos they are too big so i had to put links on. one is around 18cm and the other 25 or more (they move too much) Simian- i think i surprised them by putting the light on so maybe thats why its pale. yours is a real guts  its amazing the two are inseparable after a few minor skirmishes at the start. i hope its a male:female pair and not female:female

    my oscar

here are my new mates just got the smaller one and they are getting on well. also my apple snails have this problem with their shells- anyone know anything? they are otherwise healthy as and feed and breed regularly. for the record "this forum has gotten WAAAY to anal lately" but still nice for the advice and pictures
  3. how big are the fish and how big is the tank? 4 oscar is alot. try taking out the aggressors for a day or 2 and let the new ones get more comfortable/territorial. i did this and just sucessfully introduced an 18cm to my 28cm

    Petshop rant

totally true, ive had a totally mental dalmation and an epileptic boxer-i have 2 other mates with severe arthritis in 3 of theirs at only around 8 years and now i have a staffy bull terrier 2nd gen X and a terrier cross and they are awesome!!!
  5. ammonia or PH problem? ive had that before and sometime they come right after rigourous maintenance and sometimes not :-?
  6. another open minded bogan    long live the falcodore..... ahem :-? the holden/ford arguement is my absolute favourite, whats the difference other than "mines way better"?
  7. Who are you to be telling people whats good and not? you are obviousy a v8 fan but there are millions of classic jap fans too. Muscle cars are incredibly inefficient, a 250hp jappa would outrun a big yank tank on a decent road easy, whats so impressive about straightline power and standstill burnouts? really gets my goat when you guys cant appreciate a different style, im still very impressed when i see a nice rod... im impressed DavidR most people dont even know what a kpgc10 is. heres what i roll
  8. you can only bring in post 1998 cars, maybe even 2000+ since the law was changed regarding frontal impact standards a few years ago (ie airbags, abs brakes etc). Either that or something 25+ years old as a classic. costs about 2g i believe. and yeah exchange is rubbish at the mo, very hard to find classic parts now

    oscars

does anyone have any experience keeping oscars in a bare bottom tank? as they are so messy i would like to keep it bare so it stays clean but dont want him to suffer for not havng stones to dig through. was considering running my filter outlet through an undergravel filter. any thoughts?

    oscars

haha. ive had plenty of fish so know what im doin just never had such a big oscar before. im not intereted in a JD anymore, was just an idea. i had a look in a few shops today when i wen to auckland to get my oscar and think i may just get an eel of some sort or a smallish jag. he was in with 4 or 5 smaller fish in his old home. i want him to be comfortable but im not interested in getting a new tank as mine was built for me by my father, i will just keep it minimally stocked, he has plenty of room to turn etc at the moment and my research tells me he wont get too much bigger. if he does il let him move on to a better home. isnt he cute

    oscars

    oscars

hi, can i keep 2x 12-15cm oscars with one that is approaching 30cm? tank is 1200x400x300 keen to get some nice ones ive seen but dont want to sacrafice them-or my $$
  15. ha im sellin off my last discus, my fav one. if you wouldnt mind that would be great, if you pm me details il do it asap thanks
  16. can anyone help me find 24hr heat packs? i only need a couple. Hamilton would be best unless you can post them to raglan. i can only find 12hr and dont wana kill my baby. help much appreciated.
  17. yep go hard dixon, my setup is similar (plus approx 15 apple snails) with an even smaller filter (eheim 2213) and has been going great for a couple of years now, sometimes im too busy to clean it for almost 2 weeks and it still remains crystal clear. i think alot of the hype about discus is unwarranted, i got 2 4cms when i had very little experience and have grown them up to be huge and healthy and now have seven which at times have paired up to lay and still no problems. the hardest part is finding suitable tankmates for them as they are so stupid and often just watch food fall to the bottom  post pics when its up and running
  18. i really love black ghost knife but am finding that discus are compatable with VERY few fish as they are such slow eaters and req high temps. so was wonderin if anyone knew if they would be ok together or do the ghosts get agressive? and is 29degrees too much for them? thanks.
  19. yeh alot of silicone has algae/ fungicides in it... could be a prob. an im with ron, big water changes all th time till it stabilises.
  20. yeah i feed mine bloodworms morning and night but usually let them graze on dry food each time i pass them during the day. i have considered ox-heart but it comes in such huge quantities and also is very messy in the tank i am told. white worm is a possibility though, i may give that a try. thanks for the help
  21. hey i normally feed my discus tetra colourbits in the yellow jar with red lid but was wondering if anyone knew if "T & F Discus Feed" was a suitable alternative as jansens have recently raised their price from 13.95 to 20.95 as well as bloodworms from 4.70 to 7.50 a pack so i need to find a suitable alternative. its on t-me auction 139623756 thanks o and they are all between 7-13cm in size and under 2yrs
  22. on a similar vein.... has anyone bred rising sun with blue&red turq before? mine want to but i cant decide if its worth setting them up a tank of their own.
  23. i have a few young apple snails (40ish) that im happy for anyone to have. mayb $1ea or bulk deals  . they dont appear to like the 28degrees my discus are in. they range from 5mm to 30mm in size.
