  1. Alternatively they are good over a bit of rough cut lettuce with a bit of mayonnaise
  2. US - because they are the only place not using Metric (UK use Metric for measuring anything other than people now)
  3. Just stay calm and use a big net - or try swearing a lot - that seems to help
  4. Scoop them up in a glass
  5. I'd be inclined to remove the fish - you'll be stirring up lots of muck - they'll be relatively easy to catch once you start lifting rock out.
  6. I think you'll be fine. Perhaps you can just do it in steps to minimise the disruption, although constant fiddling about is probably more harmful than just getting it done and letting things settle. I retrospect I would have done my tank differently too, but I'm committed now.
  7. Def J at the House of O used to propogate his Yellow Figi that way au!
  8. Here's my (harmless) one See the markings on the body? - a bit different to yours, I think.
  9. Its about balance - critters are good, but detritus is bad - both live in the sand. Even with critters, I still syphon loads of muck out.

    4 foot tank

It is cheaper in the long run to buy a big filter in the first place, rather than a small one now and a bigger one later when you decide to keep different fish. I personally like Eheim - quiet, reliable, and spare parts are available should you need them. Antimates often have older models on special and in the bargain bin - check them out - or else I have a second hand Eheim you can buy - I'll put an ad in the buy/sell section.
  11. And the careful aquascaping - you know how long I spent searching for just the right piece of live rock
  12. That is a good point - it doesn't cost that much more to do a lightly stocked 3 footer instead of a nano, and it is much easier to manage - plus Dixon already has a spare 3' tank.
  13. Maybe, but they seem more interested in detritus. I suspect a lot of critters will eat corals as a last resort (I would)
  14. It might not kill it, but it definitely seems to put a dent in it - then again, it could be that the filter is trying to digest a huge amouunt of dead cyano - maybe that causes a bit of a Nitrite spike? Anyhoo, if people are using erythromycin with good results then that sounds like the way to go.
  15. That is a Conch, AKA a Money Cowrie.
  16. Metro also works well, but anything that kills cyano also kills your filter
  17. Bouyed by the optimism shown by others, I have re-established my nano tank. Sea salt is carried by Monks on the back of Donkeys from the Red Sea, then the best grains are selected before being mixed by a team of virgins in a monastary with pure hydrogen and oxygen to produce the most pure water possible. Lighting and heating is provided by a giant flaming ball of hydrogen and helium suspended in the sky by God's almighty power. You will note the pleasing growth of calcareous marine aglae beneath the majestic Majano reaching skyward in joy, whilst a starfish basks and a shrimp dances with delight because they know, this is the best nano in the world... ...well it was, before I got confused and knocked it back during a mad drinking binge au!
  18. Thats how I have them - so long as it is a 'fully submersable' heater it works fine.
  19. Frags of this now available - check the buy/sell
